My new NanoStartup got me 200k page views in a month

I got 200K pageviews by making a "nanostartup" and now it's the most used page in visa list. Even though I don't make any revenue from it. I feel it's one of the best things I have done so far this year.

Visa List Traffic

In January I made a conscious choice to build a coronavirus tracker. I was procrastinating on it for two weeks and finally built it at the beginning of February in 24 hrs. I thought it will be useful for visa list users who are travelling.

But what do you know it went viral everywhere and now is the top page on visalist. Now in hindsight I realise, if I hadn't decided to build a month back, even if I built it today, it would not have been so much used because, there are now tons of trackers.

Always try to build something useful even if doesn't make any revenue. I could have monetized the traffic which is 200k pageviews as of today but decided not to as I didn't want to profit from an epidemic.

Now everyone who used my coronavirus tracker, know about Visa List and probably in future when they need visa, they will probably remember it and this is a good thing.

So what I realised is don't try to build everything to make money, just build things to which will be useful to others and you never know how things can pan out.

Great idea, great execution, and especially kudos on not monetizing it. It'd have been easy to justify, but it takes some courage to stick to your values. 👏

You have gained my respect for not monetizing an epidemic...sorry, pandemic.

I made something similar, but more a web-based: Coronavirus Survival Calculator

      This is also web based

Awesome. Weel done! Where btw do you get the data from?

    1. 1

      I'm collecting it manually.

      1. 1

That must be time consuming, isn't it?

Nic.e! Is this the break project you were talking about earlier!

Yes, This is part of Visa List

Now I am on a desktop PC I had a look and it is very well done, from a UI/UX point of view. I think this ties in with your skills of aggregating information and presenting it in an easy to digest format, as per visalist.

Congratulations! 🎉 I actually use that map.

Note that I tried to use VisaList and I keep getting Server is Down! errors. You might be aware of this, do you use any uptime monitoring?

    1. 2

The error is 502 (Bad Gateway error).

      1. 1

Yes, I was just doing a routine maintenance work. It was down only for a minute. It should be good now.

        1. 2

@1hakr Consider setting up a maintenance page. :)

          1. 1

It's there in open startup page https://visalist.io/open

Solid achievement 👌🏽 you shouldn't feel bad for monetising, you could use the revenue to fund new features.

Congrats friend, you deserved it. I ended using your site last week and loved how well made it was.
