Newsletter monetization crisis.

Just started my newsletter and I know I’m VERY far from being able to have enough subscribers to monetize them. But as a noob asking more advanced people is it better to offer a free newsletter and get sponsors to make money? Or is it better to charge for access to the newsletter with no ads. OR a mix of both?

I’m leaning towards the 3rd option since it’s kind of the best of both worlds. Obviously the sponsors would be few and far between to keep value and not push away my audience but once in a while seems fine to me. Thoughts?

Also please check out my newsletter dedicated to helping you maximize productivity while working remote!

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about monetization yet – I think it's a thing that'll naturally develop after writing a few newsletters.

    Congrats on starting!

Thanks for the reply! And howdy to you too! I hope to monetize as I grow. Right now I am focusing on providing great content.

Depends on the purpose you had for the newsletter. Some will use it as a audience building tool in which to sell their own products and services later on.

While some will want it to generate some revenue first. If you are doing that then you want to build you audience up.

If you are in the audience building phase focus on that while you figure out if you will have an exclusive paid version so you can presale it when it's ready

Sounds good! I might do a biweekly offer for free and a "Plus" version that weekly once I ramp up. Thanks for the feedback!

No Problem! Let me know how it goes.

So far so good! I am thinking of releasing a new issue every Sunday so that people can read it and implement it hopefully for their week.

Good point. I think I will subscribe to morning brew to see how they do it. They seem like a good example to model after.
