Part of me wants it to be rubbish, as I don't want to shift to another platform (currently Substack). I've already moved from Mailchimp, and seems constant moving around the platforms will become standard.
Having Twitter powering Revue is surely going to shift many! The temptation will be too much, especially if the algorithm starts favouring Revue links.
I'm serious considering making the switch now that it's free (I'm on Substack). From 5 minutes of poking around it seems like the UI & analytics are better, custom domain is free, and they only take half the cut (5%) vs Substack for paid subscriptions.
Medium buying Substack would make sense. Maybe LinkedIn will also make a play? They've also been pushing their newsletter feature.
I've been using Revue for the past year and love it, especially its tools for saving content to the issue editor. But Revue still has missing features and glitches, for example:
subdomains still don't support https in 2021, which is a major liability in today's web and harms publishers
I was never able to set up SPF/DKIM/DCIM properly
newsletter hygiene tools never worked
the custom subscribe form is very basic and hard to customize
Let's see whether Twitter's resources can help fix this.
My first thought was 'who's next?' That immediately morphed into a potential outcome of Medium buying Substack. I use both platforms so I feel a connection.
I have mixed feelings. Twitter can improve the discoverability and engagement of newsletters. But it's yet another platform controlling at least in part a direct communication channel betweens creators and fans.
True yet we do have options and we'll see more of this as platforms continue to diversify revenue streams and graft on new audiences.
I've eyed Ghost from afar ever since I started my Substack newsletter last fall. It offers so much more than any of the newsletter platforms and the hosted version removes the need to be super technical. It's likely to be my long term choice.

I'm going to stick around as I want to see what's specifically going to change.
