Possible subscribers haven't confirmed their subscription, Is anyone facing similar issue?

I have a newsletter with around 210 subscribers right now. The problem is I have over 65 on my pending list and some of them are there since weeks ago. That is around 25% of the total possible subscribers. They haven't confirmed their subscription and I don't know why.

Previously I tried emailing a few of them manually asking why didn't they confirm the subscription or if they subscribed by mistake and a few replied with the same thing "I didn't get any confirmation email" and asked me to manually add them to the list.

Is this some kind of issue with my email provider? I am using EmailOctopus. Is anyone else facing the same problem?

Honestly having that double op-in really doesn't matter. At the beginning of my newsletter, I was actually quite picky about it but turned out it really didn't change my overall deliverability.

So if I was you, I would just lose the confirmation email and double op-in all together and then just manually add those 65+ subs that you mentioned.

    P.S - I also use EmailOctopus

But wouldn't that risk having fake subscribers? I mean someone can simply enter any random email address who isn't interested in my content. Worst of all, might as well get marked as spam.

It all depends on your domain reputation, and whether or not your content is good.

If your content is good than you won’t get marked as spam.

I’d suggest linking your domain to Google Post Master, that will give you an indication whether your being marked as spam, your domain reputation and your IP reputation. Before you send your newsletter out, I’d also suggest sending it to mail-tester

And I’m of the opinion that If your subscribers have to do more actions to subscribe to you, your growth with will go down. Make the process of signing up simple.
