Privacy policy for a German based Landing page

Hi everyone

I am busy building a side project and want to create a coming soon landing page to hopefully gather some email addresses in the meantime. From what I gather I still have to add a privacy policy since I am using MailChimp and Google Analytics.

My question is, do I have to provide my personal address in the privacy policy? I am not German, and feel a bit iffy about posting my name and personal address openly on the web.

What do other privacy concerned founders/makers do?

For some extra info, I have not started a company or anything like that. Those are things that I'll consider if I actually get some traction or once I am nearly actual launch date.

Thanks in advance

    Hey there, in theory there are various reasons to post that information, the side of the privacy policy is mandated by art. 13 (1) GDPR:

    Where personal data relating to a data subject are collected from the data subject, the controller shall, at the time when personal data are obtained, provide the data subject with all of the following information:

    * the identity and the contact details of the controller and, where applicable, of the controller’s representative;

    there's also a thing called Impressumpflicht that essentially requires you to disclose who runs the site. I've written about this here.

    Short answer: in theory you're definitely required to post this kind of info, but I personally understand if you keep some part of the most vulnerable information to yourself when starting out.

      Hi s2imon, thanks for the info regarding the Impressumpflicht. Will have a look at it. Strangely enough, that's actually the site that I am using to generate my privacy policy. It was exactly what I wanted in the sense of saying which services I am using and then having it generate a template for me, so if that's your site then thank you :)

      In any case, so I need to give up my address. Does it have to be a physical address or can it be a postal address?

        Haha it's not that strange, been working on it for 8y+. Again I totally am with you with hesitating, I'm just pointing out what's considered correct. There's always an element of evaluation in there for how and what you share with an early product imho. :)

        p.s. the post has all the info you could ever wish for.

          Fair enough. Regardless, thank for it and thank you for the link. You are right, the link does help a lot.

          Thank you very much for your help!
