I was researching this today and this is one of the articles I came across https://chamaileon.io/resources/how-to-do-a-successful-product-hunt-launch-case-study/
I've personally come to the conclusion that it's not a high priority for me to diligently engineer the product hunt post, but if I was to do so, I would probably try to make some authentic friends that use product Hunt frequently so when I launch they are ready to provide some initial support.
The article is from 2017, I think the "being hunted" part isn't necessarily required anymore.
