Putting your name and face on your website

Hi folks, what are your thoughts on having an "About" page with the names and faces of you and your team?

Any insights on why/why not to do this? I find it very hard to trust companies that don't have an about ot team page but I'm open to changing my mind, especially since I've seen a lot of IndieHackers not doing it!

There are at least two-sides to this:

    a. Go for it, let people know that humans are involved.

    b. How egocentric can you be? It's an app, who cares that you took 16 months to grow out a beard?

At the end of the day, it really is up to you.

Pssst.....my favorite bands rarely appeared in their own videos or on album sleeves...it was all about focusing on the art.

Artists are an excellent example. The difference is that I don't need to trust an artist to enjoy their music, but I do need to trust the entity that will handle all my personal data.

For giant corporations this is irrelevant but I think for this community and for smaller companies this might a the difference.

Point well taken and duly noted.

good question something I was on the fence about too. (as I change my profile photo on indie hackers from a cartoon unicorn to filtered photo) LOL

This is an interesting post and timely too since I am currently building my first landing page. It had not even occurred to me to include a picture of myself there or even much about me. I had planned on just giving a little background on the app and what is being planned.

Personally, I do like it when products have pictures and bios of the team. I just find it interesting to learn a little more about the folks behind the scenes.

Thank you for sharing Ana! I always find it hard to put myself out there in regards to anything. And I would guess so do many people. Maybe it's the perception of showing off, or the fear of failure, or the lack of confidence.
In any case, kudos to you! :)

Awesome! Never thought about it this way. Also, do you think people trust you more? In the end, my goal is for people to trust me. This is critical because I will have their financial data.

Of course some people might be more inclined to trust what looks like a "corporation" over what looks like a personal project and I guess that's fair but I'm trying to finalize my own views at the moment instead of just going with my gut instinct.

That sounds like a really healthy attitude to have, thanks!
