Questions about contacting advertisers

Hey,
So I have a website in the education niche. It has around 10k users and 40k pageviews per month. I have adsense on it but my earnings from it are a complete joke. I would like to contact a few potential businesses which might be interested in renting ad space on my website. I have a few questions to the people who had experience with this:

  • is it better to offer CPC or just a fixed monthly price?
  • how much should I charge?
  • do you know where I can find some cold email examples?
  • Do you maybe have any more tips?

Thank you so much for the help!

    Hi!

I think I can answer your questions especially from an advertiser's perspective.

Is it better to offer CPC or just a fixed monthly price?

    • This is something you can negotiate with an advertiser since you're looking to rent out your placement directly. It really depends on the advertiser's needs and you're going to have to decide on pricing that is both 1) profitable to you than now 2) satisfying to advertiser. Remember, the closer pricing is to impression level, the less desirable it is for advertisers.

    how much should I charge?

    • Depends on your website. Smart advertisers might try to evaluate your website users' quality with metrics that are relevant to their needs. You're obviously trying to make more ad revenue so you can start there. Look at how many impressions that ads get per week or month, look at your DAU and MAU, and also the average eCPM. Once you've done that you can get an idea of how much you WANT and CAN GET for your ads.

do you know where I can find some cold email examples?

    • I'm afraid I can't help you here. I always write my own. But try to use hard numbers about your website in your cold email. Many modern advertisers/marketers are moved by numbers.

Do you maybe have any more tips?

    • Everything I wrote may sound like "it depends.." but that's because it really is. Because you're looking for direct deals for ads, you're going to have to put more work and be flexible. I would try to search for businesses or app developers who are in the same vertical as you are because they might have the biggest interest in buying your ad space. Also don't look for big advertisers. Bigger advertisers have too much budget and too little time to be making direct deals.

If you have any more questions or need clarification, let me know anytime!
