Reach the first page of Google in 24 hours using long-tail keywords [real life example] [part 2]

Hi Folks,

Here is a second part and follow up of my first post on how to reach the first page of Google with a new and low authority website by using a long-tail keywords strategy.

Let's discuss here the problem of backlinks, having links to your content is a critical aspect to get your website ranked, even on a long-tail keyword search.

Getting new links when you're already on the top of search results happens quite organically (if your content is good). But how to do when your website is almost not referenced?

Let's explore a few options and dig into another real life example.

Option 1: Add links in your profiles [Difficulty: Super Easy] 🕸

You can get easy links by adding a link in your Twitter, GitHub, etc profiles. It will create a few links making you move from zero to a tiny bit of authority (better than nothing).

Option 2: Syndicate your content [Difficulty: Easy] 🕸

You can syndicate your content (means publishing the exact same content) on different platforms like Medium, Devto, etc. If you want to do it, make sure your page is already indexed on Google and always use the canonical url in the syndicated page to indicate that your website is the original source.

Google does not like at all the duplicated content, and large blogging platforms are super well ranked and indexed far more often than your very new website. If the content is indexed first on the platform you can get in trouble.

Syndicating the content brings also the benefit of making available your content to the audience you can't reach out (yet) on your site.

Option 3: Guest blogging [Difficulty: Medium] 🕸

Another approach you can try to take off and to get your first backlinks is to write some original content on other websites related to the audience you'd like to reach. You can reach out other websites owner to ask if they're interested to you to write a content for them, usually you'll get at least a link to your site, as the author of the content.

Option 4: Blog new content on other blogging platforms [Difficulty: Easy] 🕸

This one may look counter-intuitive. The idea is to write some original content on another blogging platform. But why you would do this if you want to rank your own website? Do it means writing competitive content?

Example: Let's explore the new content option with a real life example. 🕷

As explained, in the first part, I'm targeting two long-tail expressions with are related to engineering leadership space.

I crafted two nice and pretty long posts to position on them, means how to become a lead developer and how to become an engineering manager.

Then, I crafted a new original post on devto, a post that captures a higher user intent, aka, what are my options, what are the paths I can follow to progress in my developer career.

In this post, I illustrate the different paths, depending on what the reader is looking for, what he likes or dislikes, and I create links to the former articles in the content to allow the reader to dive deeper in the path he's interested in.

Here is the post that answers What Is the Next Step in Your Software Developer Career?

In other terms, I leverage my former content in a broader context and I use links to make the new original content better and more complete for the reader.

Last Thoughts 💡

Please beware to not fall into the trap of posting your links in non-related content or writing bad content to include your links inside. What matters first is to write good quality content, a content that helps your reader, the SEO is a nice bonus, but you should focus on helping the reader. 📖

I could have published this new content on my own website, but I believe it will help more readers on devto while consolidating my blog ranking on more accurate, and deep-dive contents. Last but not least, if you apply this tactic, take care to pick a blogging platform that your targeted audience use and love. 💡

I'm not a SEO expert, these are only my experiments and learnings, I hope it will help you. I will share the results of this new experiment, don't hesitate if you have any question, or need any further info.

Stay tuned, more to come! 📻
