Relaunch like a pro: 100+ places to launch, relaunch, and list your product

For indie hackers, makers, and other entrepreneurs, one launch won't usually cut it. It's becoming increasingly common for companies to launch and relaunch their products multiple times.

@muntasir, for example, launched Postpace over 50 times within 6 months and brought in $146,000.

That, along with the list of launch sites he created (linked below), inspired me. So I did a little digging and started aggregating places to launch and/or list products. Here's a list of more than 100 sites — I hope it helps.

First, a few tips

Before we get to the list, here are a few solid prelaunch and post launch tips I found along the way.

Prelaunch tips

  • Get clear on the goals (and metrics) for your launch.
  • Pick a launch date and try to stick to it. Also, make sure the date doesn't coincide with something that'll overshadow the launch.
  • Look into best practices for each launch platform that you'll be using. For example, some platforms have specific days and times that work best.
  • Create a launch checklist.
  • Create a prelaunch landing page.
  • Create an explainer video.
  • Build an email list. Offer freebies (particularly ones that demo your product's value).
  • Get started on marketing — it isn't too early.
  • Get content flowing for SEO.
  • Engage with communities.
  • Create socials for your product/company.
  • Link to your product from all your own personal socials.
  • Grow your following. That's a big topic in itself, but start by posting consistently.
  • Build in public, or at least tease what you're building.
  • Build hype.
  • Make sure friends and family are primed, so that immediately after you go live they can give your posts as much juice as possible (and post themselves). This might mean asking them to join certain communities beforehand, etc.
  • If you're going after press (see below), create a press kit and/or press release.
  • Put together an outreach list and reach out — influencers, journalists, etc.
  • Prepare your outreach, posts, etc. that will be sent on launch day.
  • Run pre-sales.
  • And of course, validate your product (more on that here).

Post launch tips

  • Keep doing QA.
  • Make sure your postlaunch site is set up to capture emails of people who may browse but not purchase.
  • Check in with users proactively.
  • Send updates to folks on your email list who haven't purchased.
  • Pay attention to (and make fixes based on) feedback. Take customers' questions and create an FAQ.
  • Set new goals and keep an eye on your metrics.
  • Get started on your post launch marketing strategy.
  • Get to work on your product roadmap.
  • Relaunch.

Where to launch and relaunch

Now let's get into where to launch. I curated* a list of sites for launching, relaunching, and listing products. Where you launch will depend heavily on your specific niche, but this should serve as a very solid baseline.

And since it's generally considered the top place to launch, here's a guide about how to launch on Product Hunt.

*Props to @muntasir for his doc, @hrishikesh1990 for his thread, Sizle for their article, and Github user mmccaff for his list.

Launch communities

While there are tons of places that you can launch, these are the places that are specifically designed for it.

  • Product Hunt: Probably the most well-known launch community out there.
  • Show HN: This is an excellent opportunity to share your product with the community at Hacker News.
  • Launched!: A community where makers showcase their products and get feedback from early adopters.

Other communities where you can launch

While these communities aren't specifically designed for launching, they're solid places to do so.

  • Reddit: Specifically, r/Entrepreneur, r/startups, r/smallbusiness, r/EntrepreneurRideAlong, r/sideproject, r/indiebiz, r/imadethis, r/design_critiques, r/growmybusiness, r/shamelessplug, r/AlphaandBetausers, r/coupons, r/ladybusiness, r/RoastMyStartup, and so on. But make sure to abide by each subreddit's guidelines.

      Haha, happy to help :)

  7. 1

This list is awesome and saved my messy list, thank you!

  8. 1

Wow, it'll take me a few weeks to go through that list, but it sure is helpful!

I am a bit confused, though...How to relaunch?

Post the same thing again? How long should I wait before relaunching or else it just becomes spam?

Also, sites like producthunt doesn't even allow relaunching.

  9. 1

    Thank you for this list!

  10. 1

This list is worth more than gold! Thank you!!

  11. 5

Awesome, glad to hear that. Thanks for sharing :)

  12. 1

Thanks for the list. Got the change to explore some new hidden gems.

  13. 1

I went through the list of launch communities, and other than ShowHN and ProductHunt all else were not functioning properly.
Its either pay to be on top (and then get scammed), or the website just does not work.
I understand that those websites want to make money, but I wish there was a launch community where each idea may have equal chance, I think such a community would have stronger following

  14. 1

Thank you for this list! However a lot of these websites don't exist anymore (like EmojiLaunch), some are buggy (couldn't create an account on StartupLister for example), and you need to wait 2-3 months for most to get featured 😅

I guess the only point of these sites is to get your product "out there" and build backlinks, but I doubt it's actually useful to get high quality traffic. Nothing beats personalized channels

  15. 3

Any bootstrapping startup should take the time and knock out each and every one of these. Also find something that is niche specific. For example I launched a 3-D printed Eyewear company and went to 3-D printing news sites and got them to cover us.

  16. 3

This is a great guide, thank you!!

  17. 3

Thanks for making this James 🙂

  74. 1

Killer! definitely bookmarking this for my next launch

  75. 1

Really great list! Thanks for sharing.

I would only add, for the press kit 2 things:

    • include really nice high quality video and phtotograhs of your product (if it applies)
    • story ideas that tie-in between your project and currently trending topics.
  76. 1

yea, can't reiterate enough - super good list. Now...anyone making an app to automate posting to all of them? Any good marketing automation tools to make that easy and keep them all in sync?

Show HN: Sorry to resurrect a dead post. I actually went through the entire thing one by one posting about SimpleX Chat. Here it goes one last time for the sweet 101!

SimpleX is a new platform for distributed Internet applications where the privacy of the messages and the network matters most. The current version is stable, robust and can be used from the terminal (command line) on all major desktop platforms (Linux/Mac/Win) and on Android phones in Termux!

There is currently no messaging application that respects user privacy and guarantees metadata privacy — in other words, messages could be private, but a third party can always see who is communicating with whom by examining a central service and the connection graph. SimpleX, at its core, is designed to be truly distributed with no central server. This allows for enormous scalability at low cost, and also makes it virtually impossible to snoop on the network graph.

Show HN: Sorry to resurrect a dead post AGAIN. I actually went through the entire thing one more time posting about First4Freelancers.

Our service is ideal for Small and Medium Sized Businesses. You get all the flexibility and control of running the payroll without the inconvenience of training staff or investing in expensive software.
