Released my first project in PUBLIC BETA!

Hi guys,

I finally did it. I released my project.

I've been working on it for more than a year already, under heavy perfectionism and self-doubt. I've remade the app 3 times because I was not happy with it.
I'm still not happy, but enough is enough.

Talo is released today https://www.talo.live/

I would appreciate any constructive feedback!

    Congrats on your launch!
    Now, the constructive feedback...
I don't want to discourage you but can you explain why you built one more clone of Upvoty (which is a clone of Canny)? What are your unique selling propositions? How do you differentiate from them (except maybe pricing)?
I know, these are tough questions but you have to have clear answers. And if you don't have, you need to find them.
    Good luck!

Competition exists pretty much in any area. I read a similar answer somewhere - There are 10 water bottle companies without any differentiation and all make money. The same is the case with many non-tech products. So, it's okay to find/build 'that differentiating factor' as the product evolves even though you don't have it on day 1.

        This, 💯

More people need to realize that there doesn't have to be a differentiator on day 1.

I was once told that branding can be enough of a differentiator to get you started. Humans are odd, and sometimes a person will choose a competitor because they like blue over green. 🤷‍♂️

Well, it's totally "ok" if you have millions that you can spend on ads on TV and distribution network.
But inidiehackers usually don't have them. All they have is their idea, passion, and belief that their product is better than their competitors'. That's why they are always recommend to create a blue ocean.

Thank you for the feedback, valid questions!

To be honest there will be competitors in any area.

Our unique selling point is that we use a widget directly on the website of the client. Users don't have to go on another domain. Even though canny has an integration with Intercom, their widget is quite unstable and hard to use.

      1. 1

You are totally right about the competition.
But I'm talking about differentiating from them. It's vitally important if you don't have millions you can spend on ads else... you need to convince a customer to buy your product.
I don't know if your feature is unique or not (as far as I know Upvoty has it too), I'm just trying to say that the marketing having USP is much easier than without it.
        Good luck!

As others have said, don't worry about a USP on day 1. Best is to work with customers and evolve over time. :)

  2. 2

Awesome. Note the 'pricing' link in your footer doesn't work.

    1. 1

Thank you for pointing this out, we will fix it.

  3. 2

Wow! A year is crazy commitment. I worked on BeeTrendy for 10 days and I was like sheeeesh.

PS: Love the screenshot/snippet images explaining the features. Wish I had that kind of creative ability.

Looks great, I think you should have a "Demo" somewhere clear on the home page.

Awesome suggestion! Work in progress :)

  5. 2

Congratulations, the site looks super polished and made with love :)

One quick tip. The "Don't have an account?" button in your app is quite hidden. Originally I thought that since I clicked Get Started I'd be redirected to the sign up page, so I immediately clicked on the Google login. Made me think the product is still in some close beta.

    Good luck!

Thank you for your comment, Bernard!

Very good tip indeed! I'll change the redirected page to sign up instead of sign in :)
