Roast: Landing page for InstaBudget

Hi 👋🏻,

I would love to get feedback on my new landing page for InstaBudget.

https://instabudget.app/

Is it clear what problem it solves?
Is it clear how it solves the problem?

Thank you 🙌🏻

    Hi Jerome

I have jotted down some thoughts, may be of help:

Initially, I did not get it, for a moment.

Maybe something like: "Keep track of what you spend and plan to... And gain financial awareness..."?

I needed to read and process eighteen words to find out, just after the hop to the next screen element (the button), that it is about 'budegting'.

So, I would suggest priming your reader.

Write down what you spend... And find financial freedom
Find out how much you can lay aside... And invest in your dream

My point is: financial awareness and budgeting are nouns that could trigger anything in mental models or do not trigger at all.

    I suggest copy with actions.

Moreover 'Get out of debt' and 'Save for next financial goal' are somehow contradictions. Getting out of dept means giving all you have to your creditors. Financial goals you can save money towards start from a stronger position, mostly.

    Good luck!

Maybe, you give advices? If your algorithms find out someone spends a lot on take away coffee your app suggests alternative habits? Like spicey chocolate milk on their own in a more calm ritual like morning. A lot of reseach work... Just have had this little flash of insight...

And: Mobile should be more visible. Mobile app is ready to scan expenditures instantaniously... Coupled with location you have more algorithmic input data for bringing up alternative habit nudges...

Oh wow, thank you so much for such detailed feedback. 🙌🏻

It totally makes sense now that you point it out, 'Gain Financial Awareness' sounded cool, but I guess that does not explain what InstaBudget does.

The worst part: I just finished reading a couple of books on marketing and positioning where they say not to be cute, and I did it anyway 🤣

When viewing the website on mobile, the links to the App Stores are above the fold.

At the moment, my mobile apps are behind on features, so I'm more than happy to keep it on the down-low until I have updated them. I'll likely update the hero screenshot to show mobile + desktop.

Header misses it for me. Another budgeting app? Surely that's not your positioning.

The rest is pretty straight forward.

Although I'm still left wondering why. Why is it good. Does it save me more time than what I use already.

I may not be the target user - but this would not get me to switch.

Is it for people who don't budget?

I intend to add more InstaBudget vs. <other_solution> dedicated pages. The landing page was thus more tailored towards people who are not budgeting yet.

Nonetheless, it looks like it might still be missing the mark on explaining "why it's good", so I'll try and improve on that part of the messaging. Thank you.
