SaaS Manual - build a SaaS product from scratch

Hi awesome Indie hackers!

I would love to ask for your feedback for the landing page for a new project I am working on: SaaS Manual

https://www.notion.so/SaaS-Manual-2b936e06bba14f87be667334adad0aaa

Some context: I've been building SaaS products for a long time, most recently Cloud9 IDE which was acquired by AWS. I thought it might be valuable for folks to launch a course which teaches how to build SaaS products form zero to something working. With a twist: the thing the course teaches is the building of saasmanual.com itself, so not another TODO list. Inception :) Dogfooding :)

So, since saasmanual.com is not live yet (building a landing page might be the first lesson), I decided to build the first landing page on Notion. And from thereon expand, step by step.

I'd super appreciate any feedback, ideas, comments:

  • Is the idea clear? If not, what confused you?
  • Does it invite to join the journey?
  • Should I be asking for email or to follow on twitter instead?

Here it is again: https://www.notion.so/SaaS-Manual-2b936e06bba14f87be667334adad0aaa

Have a wonderful day,

Hey @nonken, I would be happy to make detailed video feedback about your notion page and share it with you!

I have just started out as an independent product reviewer, so in return, all I ask is that if you like my review, could you write a 2-3 liner review on my Upwork profile?

In that way, we both can help out each other! Let me know if that sounds interesting to you!

    1. 1

Hey! That sounds super awesome and I am happy to leave feedback on your Upwork profile, for sure! I will be out this weekend so can only do this when back on Sunday, just so you know.

      1. 1

Great, that's really exciting to hear!
Just let me know a way in which I can send you the video, like email or LinkedIn profile

        1. 1

Cool, can you PM me on twitter? https://twitter.com/nonken
          Have a super good weekend.

            Awesome!
            Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for sending your review, super appreciated and great feedback! I'll be updating the page next 🙏🏻

hi, how did you iframe a notion page onto the url? I tried the same and it said notion.so refused to connect

    Great concept @nonken I 100% loved it.

But the content is hard to consume & if possible add less text and more visual elements.

There is alot that can be improved 😘
    Best of luck

I thought it was interesting enough that I signed up (especially once I got to the topic overviews towards the bottom), but I wonder if it's a little confusing to be so self-referential. Have you considered making an example SaaS product that is more complicated than a todo app, but isn't inception?

    1. 1

Ahhh awesome and thanks for signing up!! I thought about this and my conclusion was that I didn’t want to build a separate service. My concern was that eventually I’d start to be distracted and the actual business of the product would become more important than the lessons. Here the main purpose always will be to provide valuable lessons. That said, maybe I don’t have to put so much focus on the inception part, because really it’s just a fun side effect. Thanks a ton for your feedback again, super appreciate it 🙏🏻 Have a great weekend ☀️

Hey @nonken I made a video on YouTube that breaks down the goods and bads of your page from my perspective, let me know what ya think!

    1. 1

Ahhh thank you so much!! I’ll properly dive into your feedback tomorrow because I am on the road atm. 🙏🏻

        1. 1

Ok, properly watched it and love your thoughts, both the good and bad parts! The community idea is really nice, I have been thinking about this as well, especially where do draw the line between tech and all the other stuff. I am intrigued by the idea to actually include the other stuff, especially for indie hackers who don't want to scale up to a larger team. Will be updating the page today and tomorrow. Thanks again, super appreciate that you took the time 🙏🏻

Love the idea, joined the mail list 😊
In fact, it sounds really cool to me since I'm on my way to build the first saas project. So it really fits what I thought of

Yes, it invites to join a journey in my opinion

I think email is something that's more triggering the 'jouney begins' mechanism, compared to twitter following.
Maybe it's worth including 'twitter following' asa first step of the journee, the first email in sequence

Hope that helps and looking into getting the first lesson

      Hi Max,

Ahh thank you for your feedback!! Super appreciate it 🙏🏻
And also love the idea to highlight Twitter following in the first email, thank you for sharing that!!

I am planning to properly announce this next week, so you'll hear from me soon with the first lesson :) I think the first lesson will be launching the same Notion content on saasmanual.com, including the how that actually works.

      Have a great weekend!
