Sales have slowed. How do I bounce back?

Hey. My name is Brayden and I'm the founder of BuildFaster which sells easy-to-use HTML themes and helps you setup your website in minutes. A couple days following the launch, I made 3 sales and $55 USD. It has been a week since launch without any more sales 😞

Check BuildFaster's site here: https://buildfaster.netlify.app

Why do you think sales have stopped? How can I improve the expierience?

Thanks for all your help.

If you just launched, I highly recommend doing manual sales (talking to people 1-on-1) than relying on your site to make sales by itself. Not only will you probably make more sales, but you'll also learn a lot more about why people buy or don't buy, because they'll literally tell you.

Thanks @csallen, I've been trying to find clients manually (like you said), but am having trouble. I've probably gone through about 100+ over the past week 😂. Do you have advice of how/where to look for clients?

      1. 1

From one of his podcasts I remember trying to send out 50 emails out a day to "get advice" (and making a sale that way) from potential users.

Hi @BraydenTW, your site is very sleek. Website theme space is pretty crowded. marketplaces like theme forest, envato are ways in which majority Of people get their themes. And in other cases direct linkups or mentions via domain name/hosting service providers takes new site owners down the route of choosing a domain. In the other cases, they get their site through agencies who do their own work of sourcing themes.

    1. It will definitely be useful for you to be present in more of these marketplaces to gain exposure.
    2. lot of sites with good domain authority talk about really good themes. Might not be a bad idea to strike an affiliate deal with them
    3. your themes page speaks like a designer and not really to the customer who is potentially a customer with minimal design understanding. Just wants a theme to make his business look good.

I do have a few suggestions on your overall site. Happy to chat further if you are interested. I can he reached at [email protected]

Idea for landing page: Show a before and after. Show the problem you are solving. My first impression of "code faster with HTML Themes" is "I already code fast".

    • Don't use boxes for "Why it's awesome?", have them as a simple list.
    • Get more testimonials + put them higher
    • Remove "Save Precious Time" section
    • Remove that gap with the theme preview
    • Simplify your site, make it more minimal, and let the themes do the talking

Hope this is welcomed, Brayden :)

Oh this is more than welcomed 😄

If your sales have slowed down, there are several steps you can take to bounce back and get your sales back on track:

Analyze your sales data: Take a close look at your sales data to identify patterns and trends. Look for changes in customer behavior, market conditions, or other factors that may be affecting your sales. Use this information to adjust your sales strategy and focus your efforts on areas that are most likely to generate results.

Reconnect with past customers: Reach out to past customers and see if they are interested in buying from you again. You can offer them discounts or incentives to encourage them to make another purchase.

Revamp your sales pitch: Review your sales pitch and make sure it is relevant and compelling to your target audience. Consider making changes to your messaging, value proposition, or pricing strategy to better appeal to potential customers.

Increase your marketing efforts: Increase your marketing efforts to reach a wider audience. Consider investing in social media advertising, content marketing, or email campaigns to generate more leads and increase your brand awareness.

Offer new products or services: Introduce new products or services that complement your existing offerings. This can help attract new customers and provide more opportunities to upsell and cross-sell to your existing customer base.

I would suggest clarifying even more your ideal customer and what your website builder will do for them. Then you can start with a better main headline. 'Your new favorite them is around the corner' doesn't tell a visitor anything about why they should purchase a theme from you. Something like: 'Getting started in website development but feeling overwhelmed? Our easy-to-install themes help you get started and on your way in just a few minutes!' (I don't know if that is exactly what your product does, but that is just an example of how you can better speak to your target audience's pain/problem.)

In general I think you need more information on the homepage about the benefits of your product and how it will help.

I would also suggest putting all the themes for sale on the main page rather than having them on a separate page. It took me a moment to figure out exactly how and where I needed to go to buy. And you never want that. It should be easy for people to give you their money!

I also suggest you add a way to collect email addresses and develop something to give away to entice people to give their emails to you (for example, write up a short pdf on the Top 5 Tips for Getting Started in HTML Web Development and then give it away free in return for an email address). On average it takes something like 7 touch points before a person is ready to buy. If you get the emails of people who visit your site who don't buy as well as those who do, you can start sending them follow up emails educating them about html web development in general and your product in particular.

Okay thanks! I will work on that and the email form. 👍

You're welcome. I'm happy to help with further reviews and ideas if you need anything.

Thanks! If I am looking for more help in these coming days, I will be happy to hear your opinion.

    Setup the custom domain name

    What marketing are you doing?
Have you reached out to the people who bought from you to see if there are any problems you can help with... and maybe ask why they bought and how they found you? It might give you insight into where to find other customers. Otherwise, as @csalle
mentioned: manual sales are a good shout.

    1. 1

Yes I've done that with the customers I've had and they said things like how a certain HTML theme caught their eye. How do I apply that to future customers? (How/where do I look to find people like that?)

      1. 1

A certain theme caught their eye... I haven't seen your site, but maybe promote the most popular themes, as it may catch other people's eye.
How did your current customers find you? Did you help someone on a forum and suggest they look at your theme... in which case help more people in that forum. Do you have google analytics? You can see how people get to your site. Well worth investigating and trying to develop those sources and find similar sources.

I have BuildFaster as a product on IH and I have posted themes on Dribbble.

We have curated a list of podcasts on Sales, guess it will be helpful for you https://blog.mails.wtf/top-sales-podcasts/

When I first created @BetterSheets I got a sale in the first 3 days, then not one more until 2 weeks later. But then on that day, I had 3 more sales.

    Keep working at it.
    Keep iterating.
    Keep getting traffic.

If you got 1 sale, you can get 10. if you can get 10, you can get 100.

Have you thought about offering some free pieces of your HTML snippets? As a potential customer, that would help me validate the value before having to pay for anything.

Also, a real domain (not netlify.app) would probably help.

This market is also very crowded. You'll probably need to spend more time/effort/money on sales and marketing than you realize. Don't underestimate the value of manual 1-on-1 sales. Those will lead to more sales via word of mouth and better SEO ranking.

You may want to check out the "Live Preview" feature on the landing page of https://frontendor.com/. Very sleek and gives me a lot of confidence in the quality of the product.

    Good luck!

    1. 1

I am selling HTML themes not snippets. I am planning to add a simple demo video to show how easy it is to use one of BuildFaster's themes. I also already have a "live Preview" for each of my themes.

What is your target audience? You will find it hard to sell to IHers with CS background like myself. I'd rather build my own site or use a flexible no-code solution like webflow if I don't want to spend time coding a landing page. While BuildFaster is nice but still I need to cover other costs like hosting and deploying time.
I believe you need to better define your target audience: IHers with basic coding skills who want to build/lunch a product but at the same time sharpen their coding skills (in this case you are giving them something to start with, and at the same time they have the code to practice and improve)

    1. 1

Yeah I was aiming for the beginner group of web devs but the trouble I'm having is finding some.

      1. 1

        where have you been looking?

        1. 1

Mainly on IH. Do you know of better places?

          1. 1

Yes I don't think IH is the ideal place to find your customers.
You need to find where dev noobs hang out. probably reddit, coding boot camps forums.
Try google something like "learn how to code" and see what results you find

            1. 1

              Cool! I'll try that out.

Not sure if that domain is yours, but not having a own domain atleast for me, it sets me back, doesn't aspire much confidence, I really have those things in mind.
