Scatterbrain: Lists Made Simple

TLDR;

Scatterbrain is designed for humans. Simply a space for all your lists — shopping, tasks, movies, places, your bucket list, goals, reminders, etc. The short answer: it helps you organize your life regardless of how you choose to use it.
It is now available on iOS, Android, and Web. You can expect new features and updates to roll out regularly. Also, it's free. Forever.

A new era

Since we last posted, our dedicated Scatterbrain team has been beavering away to enhance the beta version and make it even “bigger and better” than before — in Scatterbrain language this translates to “simpler and faster”.
Much can still be improved, hence we have a pipeline of updates planned. Key things we have been focusing on thus far include smarter cross-platform synchronization, better onboarding, easier navigation between lists, and a smoother overall UI on all platforms.
Our ambition for Scatterbrain is to make it fast, easy, and ubiquitously accessible. Furthermore, providing enough functionality and adaptability to users, whatever they choose to list!

Under the hood

General

Firebase has recently had its 2020 summit to chat about advancements to its already comprehensive app development platform which makes up the infrastructure for many of your favorite products. Backed by Google Cloud, trusted by top apps; Firebase is our choice of cloud service for a truly flexible, rapid deployment, and super scalable engineering approach.

We already use Hosting, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Authentication, Crashlytics, and Analytics and plan to expand even deeper with Cloud Storage, Firebase ML, Remote Config, Dynamic Links, and Cloud Messaging to achieve our mission.

Some of the tools, services and communities we found useful in building Scatterbrain are: Sketch, Visual Studio, Adobe Creative Cloud, Androidstudio, GitHub, Atlassian Bitbucket, Atlassian, Material-UI, Learn React with chantastic, Fireship, Firebase, Material Design, Google Developers, Google Cloud, Google Design.

Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google and Sign in with Microsoft as well as a simple email sign-in is available across relevant supported platforms to make getting started easier while keeping you in charge of your data.

iOS and Android

Thanks to Flutter, we are able to respond to feedback and release new features at a gratifying rate. We considered using the old faithful native development for quality and performance. However, our wish to respond to feedback and bug reports with immediate updates and releases shifted our crosshair to a true cross-platform stack. React Native and Xamarin both offer native performance but Flutter has really stolen the show with unrivaled support, community size, and growth over the last 6 months. The widget library and roadmap to support web and desktop sealed the deal for us.

On the Web

Even with Flutter’s grandiose notion to be truly cross-platform, react is still the king of the URL. Scatterbrain web is built with React and Material UI and is both our web app and landing page. There remains much SEO work on the team's backlog to make it easier to naturally find us.

Officially Available

Scatterbrain has undergone weeks of user-experience analysis and testing and we are proud to say it is available and waiting to be downloaded. If you haven’t yet joined the Scatterbrain community then I encourage you to jump in and start listing! We are also very open to feedback and would love to hear what you think.

Roadmap

We are just too excited to keep this to ourselves. Besides general improvements and enhancements, some of the features that will soon be available to you are:

  • Daily Focus — a default list to keep you focused and make the onboarding even simpler and faster
  • Sharing lists with friends and teams
  • API support for Google Places, Netflix, Goodreads, Spotify, Amazon
  • Wearable and assistant support, e.g. Apple Watch, Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa, etc.
  • Exploring further integration, partnerships, and more with apps like Slack API, Workplace from Facebook, Medium, GitHub, Todoist, Evernote, monday.com, Trello, TickTick, Any.do, Asana, Remember The Milk, etc.

Final Note

We are very excited for all our users to find out what they’ve been missing in their lives!
