Send me your website for review. First-visit impression.

I enjoy giving entrepreneurs a detailed description of my first visit to their website.

Post your link below and I'll get started / let you know when I'm done.

Hopefully the feedback is helpful. It's the least I can do given all the people I met over the past month. You're all amazing.

Update July 22, 2020
Hi everyone, I had one of my very best friends die recently and took some time off everything for that. If you haven't heard from me yet about your website, I apologize for the dealy. I'm returning to work now, so will resume websites this week.

I hope everyone is doing ok and enjoying the summer. Remember to make some time for activities!

I appreciate your initiative. Here is mine -> https://remoteleaf.com

Btw, I'm also working on new landing page(WIP, not live yet) -> http://remoteleaf-spark.webflow.io/

    Let me know your feedback.

    1. 1

Awesome thanks @abinaya - I added it to my list and will get back to you as soon as I finish it!

      1. 1

Hey, I just updated the link to the new landing page. Please use this link when you review -> https://remoteleaf.webflow.io

        Thank you 🙏

        1. 1

I was reading through the thread and I loved your website, so I made a video of first impressions!

          https://youtu.be/ne0HXQdACaU

          Summary:

          • Careful with call to actions - don't step over them
          • If you're using bulletpoints, make sure you're using the best ones!
          • Use screenshots of product to reinforce your benefits
          • Ensure some of the more obvious headers explain the real benefits and allow me to seeing myself benefiting from the solution you're providing
          1. 1

Thank you so much for the feedback. it's really helpful

          1. 1

Do you like the new landing page? Any feedback?

  2. 3

    app.stockalarm.io

We just launched it last week and are hyped to see what you've got!

    1. 2

Hey @yahiabakour that's awesome! Congrats! This post got quite a few more replies than I anticipated haha. I added your site to my list and am working through all of these now. I'll be in touch when yours is done :)

      1. 2

@colinmacinnis No worries at all, this post seems to have blown up lol. Take your time and thank you for doing this!

  3. 2

That would be awesome Colin! My website/landing page is https://targetaudience.app 🔥
    It's like Grammarly for copywriting.

    1. 2

For sure @MrAtiebatie - I gave a minor comment in the past on your website, but not to the extent I'm prepared to through this little initiative. I'll notify you when I'm done :)

  4. 2

Thank you for the wonderful gift.
I struggled with growth and came across IndieHackers and am happy to have found your post.

This is the landing page for my product.
I'm trying to collect email addresses, but I'm struggling to get them.

    https://feelyou.app/

    1. 1

It'd be my pleasure @IndieAkina - many of us Indie Hackers are experiencing the pain and frustration of getting a business off the ground.

Touring your website across social media platforms and not getting traction really hurts. I did that for 4 years sadly (doing ~$25-30k per year). THIS community of amazing (and I really mean amazing) people can help you get where you want to.

I added your website to my list of websites to review and will contact you when it's ready!

  5. 2

Not mine but a friend who wants to launch a product or two:

    https://fxtax.net/

    1. 1
      • Too much on a single page, needs to prioritize and de clutter.
      • Consistent color, responsive.
    2. 1

I had a quick look at it and I would make the navbar fixed and I wouldn't do buttons inside just links in a flex links with a hover (darker on it) would be just fine.
And at the bottom of the page in the "FXtax.net features" you have 6 boxes the problem is that the box is not "clickable everywhere which is a bit weird (I was even wondering if they were links. Otherwise very nice website.

    3. 1

You're a good friend @Zlatko. I'll give this a look, compile findings/feelings and be in touch w the finished review

  6. 2

    That’s an awesome idea Colin!

Would love your thoughts and first impression

    1. 3

Don't forget to check your layout on mobile, more specifically the amount of columns shown on smaller screens

      1. 1

Mobile render was not optemised, fixed now! thank you!

    2. 2

perfect on desktop, but not responsive.
This has a potential to grow big...

      1. 1

        fixed, thank you for feedback!:)

    3. 2

Hey @alexshr it's fun (plus I enjoy doing this).

I've added your website to my queue and will be in touch.

PS: I'm doing this to get more experience reviewing websites in fine-detail. I think it'll help my skillset and business. Thanks for commenting on the idea!

      1. 1

thank you for doing this! any feedback would be great!

    1. 2

Thanks for sharing @ToddInsights - your website is added to my queue and I'll contact you once it's done :)

    1. 1

It's my pleasure @whereismypen. I added your website to my queue and will be in touch!

  7. 2

Hey awesome initiative to provide feedback from a fresh perspective!

    Link here: https://realoop.com

    1. 1

Site looks great! Love the design. Super small thing - the one liner at the top was a bit hard to understand. "Realtors" was at the end so was hard to process who product was for. Also, it took a while to understand "together" was referring to the client - realtor relationship (initially thought it was referring to multiple realtors working together). You could try something like: "Realoop makes it easy for realtors to manage, track, and close deals with their clients."

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback, that makes total sense to me.

I'll update the line to what you suggested as it is a lot more clear.

    2. 1

Thanks @PrimePatel - happy to help. Gives me more eyes on websites/more experience. I have your website in my queue and will be in touch when it's done :)

  8. 2

@geoffchan23 - I saw you post not sure how to promote/sell your product. I'm adding your website to my list here for a more proper/thorough review.

    https://www.viyo.io/

As to your post earlier, I can relate. I'm at that low-point too and am flailing now to find that window of traction. Let's build together.

And a PS, a lot of other entrepreneurs experience the same problem / feel lonely building their company. I started a business development vlog on youtube if you'd like to join in on it (we'll get where we're going tg).

Here's the link - no pressure to join but might help

Thank you so much! It's definitely a tough feeling to overcome. It's kind of like imposter syndrome mixed with failure.

But thank you for the encouragement and the positivity! You're one of the reason being part of this community is so great :)

I will check out the channel! Gave you guys a subscribe :)

      1. 2

I saw that and sent you a LinkedIn message (I wanted to respect your privacy haha). I really appreciate that subscribe Geoff - definitely one of this week's highlights.

Anyone can advertise a channel and get a bunch of subs, but I want to follow the guidance and advice my peers emphasize about building a unified, supportive community. Without that foundation, I feel like my channel would have an empty-feeling to it.

Knowing people like you are subscribed is going to make me much happier on camera haha

        1. 2

Haha yea I saw that message. It came so fast I was actually wondering if you had automated that somehow on a new subscriber. Of course that would be pretty crazy 😂

But I'm happy to support a fellow IndieHacker!

  9. 2

    buildfaster.netlify.app thanks so much 😄

I did a post where I had to do over 150 landing page reviews so I now how much dedication this takes. 👍

    1. 1

I'll def check out your post.

I've been plugging away at my business for a while with very little results.

Right now I have a need to know that I can provide SOME value to SOMEONE out there (even if it's a website review).

I'll let you know when I finish yours and will get back to you :)

      1. 1

        Thanks! Means a lot

  10. 2

    www.getonekey.io

Thanks a lot to take the time to do this!

    1. 1

It's my pleasure @llopezz - the indie hackers community has been amazing to me the last 2 months since joining. it's the very least I can do

  11. 2

I would love to know your first impressions of https://gamepresskit.com ! Thanks for taking the time to offer this to the community!

    1. 1

Sounds good @rfizzy i'll let you know when I'm done :)

https://matematikyardim.com/Home/Index This is a website for math tutors to register to be able to find students to teach. One can only enter the relevant information to be shown, no sign in, no sign up. You can think of it as a minimum viable product. I know you don't understand the language, but would you publish your relevant information on this website. I mean, does it seem to be a trustable website? Thanks in advance buddy!

  14. 1

Love doing these case research. They take a whole lot of time to jot down Maybe I could setup it my website is here https://techquare.com/ hope you will like it. I'm building a Pro model of the publication with more content material.

  15. 1

How many ended up on your list? and how far have you got through that list?

    1. 2

Hey @DevManDan — sorry for a late reply. I had ~230 websites and did not follow through finishing them. My best friend died this summer (27 years old) and that completely took the wind out of my sails. Only re-entering the world now.

If you have any other questions, I’m happy to help 👌🏼

      1. 1

No worries. Sorry to hear about your friend. Sounds like your 2020 is going worse than most peoples'. Wishing you all the best.

    Awesome idea Colin!

So far the reviews have ranged between 20-40 slides in a Google Slides doc. You can expect yours later this week hopefully!

I want to give every single person a detailed amount of feedback so they can really make massive game-changing improvements to their sites/conversion.

Just have a little faith and patience with me! :D

      1. 1

Hey Colin. Ardy here from Edmonton! 👋

    Here's our site: Browse AI

We are aware of a bunch of issues on the marketing site in communicating what we do and our value proposition, but still, we would love to hear more feedback!

    1. 1

@ardalan buddy's from the west coast!! Nice to connect hahah.

Last time I caught up with an Albertan, they thought all we did was fish out here in NS BUT LOOK AT US NOW (lolll). We got this whole internet thing happening ;p

Jokes aside, it's awesome to connect with a fellow Canadian. I'm getting people from Brazil and Europe and Australia, States, France etc. It's amazing.

I have a spreadsheet going of reviews and so far, the ppts I'm making are 20-60 slides long depending on the amount of webpages. Very high level of detail (only the best for my fellow Indie Hackers).

I'll notify you when I finish yours, but if you wanna hang out on a call before then feel free to schedule one. Meeting link is on my site marketingqualified.com. We can.. I donno.. make beaver impressions at each other or something lol

      1. 2

So you're saying you didn't post this while fishing?? whoaa lolll

I really appreciate that! Right now, I'm heads down trying to launch in about a week. I will schedule a call after. Talk to you soon Colin!

  23. 1

We just launched FRONTENDOR.COM this week and we would love your thoughts and first impression :)

    1. 1

Perfect! Thank you @Frontendor. I'll be in touch when I finish your review :)

Just an FYI these are pretty detailed reviews. The docs I'm creating are 20-60 slides long depending on the amount of pages.

Stay safe, enjoy the sun, I'll be in touch ;)

  24. 1

Colin - I have a generic landing page at www.culturesy.com for almost a month trying to collect new subscribers and reviews, but I'm about to launch and would really appreciate your feedback on the new design. Thanks for offering this to us all!

    https://culturesy.webflow.io/

    1. 1

      Hey @ksig113 that's exciting :)

I'm moving projects with launch dates further up the queue so no one misses a deadline. I've added your site to my list.

Once done I'll notify you here in this thread!

Until then, enjoy that sweet summer sun :p

  25. 1

Awesome initiative - would you also be open to giving feedback on app listings? The website isn't really anything to look at yet 😅

This is by no means complete but I'm out of ideas. This is my portfolio website, but it is very fast. https://react-portfolio.eric-santos.now.sh/

    Thank you.

    1. 1

@esantos not to worry amigo - I'm right there with you.

I've been running a digital marketing company a few years now and it's been good, but bad, then good, then iffy. I change who I want my customer to be too often.

This website review project is a way to break away from that and get my head on something else to give all that a little time to sit.

      It's not easy!

A guy I interviewed recently closed $900k on kickstarter doing drawings and had a front-end webdev company going. I asked how they compared and he said being a UX freelancer was like pulling teeth, then all the sudden his drawings took off. The written interview is here: https://marketingqualified.com/blog/griffin-macaulay-raises-900k-on-a-15k-kickstarter-campaign/

Anyway, I'll review your site and get back to you.

Hang in there a little longer :)

  36. 1

    Hello

I'll be in touch when it's ready.

Hey @keyserfaty - I have your website review.

In short, wow. I don't have words right now. This original post on Indie Hackers blew up a bit and I've seen quite a variety of websites so far.

This one has been the most delightful experience I've had yet.

I feel like I've been taken out on a date, fed a wonderful meal, appetizers, dessert. And that I went for a nice walk along a boardwalk or beach afterwards to close out the evening -- all from your website.

I hope you enjoy the review. Excellent excellent experience.

Hey @hessel I have your website review ready.

Konvo was one of the better websites I used today. It's hands down the most simple and clean site I used today and you didn't feel the need to stuff extra words into it.

I'm very pleased with this page and excited to see where your product goes -- I signed up.

Few notes along the way, but overall a great landing page.

If you need help promoting your product/getting the word out, I can help you spread this. I think your customers are going to be clicks-not-code CRM admins. Just a hunch.

      Great email exchange earlier :)

      1. 2

To anybody reading this, Colin does incredible work! Hurry before he raises his prices!

We have just started promoting on sites like IH but no real marketing yet. It's fully functional, but we've actually been waiting for our official UX relaunch sometime in August before we kick off the real marketing efforts.

We are more than happy to onboard some initial beta users before we introduce paid-tiers! I have to warn you, the UX takes a little getting used to at this point.

But we would love for you to start spreading the word however you know best! We can talk about this more over email if you'd like to come to an official agreement!

        1. 2

Wowzas - what a statement. Thank you and 100% sign me up for a beta user. I'd be thrilled to jump in on this product more and play around with some sample data

Hey @findingnino, thanks for sharing your website.

Honestly, I was having a rough week and needed a win under my belt. SOMETHING that showed I could add value to someone's life by way of digital marketing.

I'm so grateful people are replying to my post here.

Returning the favor.. I have no idea (but appreciate it). Maybe follow my profile on IH? :)

      1. 2

Followed before you even responded! :) That doesn't count, let me know when you think of something good!

Glad I could help! Any projects you've been thinking about working on? Maybe I can give you some feedback?

        1. 2

Honestly, I've been making a go as a digital marketing agency, but the clients were hit and miss.

I'm at a point where I'm just trying to find my groove to be honest. I interviewed a few business owners about marketing (one guy did a $900k kickstarter - cool story) and I donno. Having community and believers in your work is so important in the early days. I think back over the last 2-3 years (been blogging for 4 years) and if I'm being honest, I was forcing my business forward and shoving it down peoples' throats.

Plus this week was a bad week and I wanted to get a win under my belt (hence why I wrote this post). I'm so so so grateful people are responding. It's a win-win for all of us.

I might take you up on a support item in the future :) (and thank you)

          1. 2

Have you thought about creating a digital marketing course? It sounds like you know your stuff, but would rather not deal with the day-to-day of dealing with clients.

You can use https://gumroad.com/ to host the content and take payments so you don't have to deal with creating a website or anything. Make a few free lessons and work on converting those users to paid customers with more advanced lessons.

A lot of the tutorials I've found focus mostly on a high-level overview of everything. I would find value in paying for a course that dove deeper into your "digital marketing stack".

            1. 2

You hit the nail on the head @findingnino haha.

I started into developing an online course but my full-time job/workplace (a university) saw and posed an idea of me teaching marketing this coming fall. It sounds pretty neat, so I'm seeing if I could do both!

Diving a layer deeper (if you don't mind).

What sort of goals would you have re 'digital marketing stack'? Perhaps more up the ally of 'revenue stack' how to smooth ensure revenue is flowing? What to measure? Sales and Marketing Operations?

Just curious because for real I have a video team on standby ready to shoot an online course when I give the word.

Just trying to get that curric right, yanno?

There are a few examples from others sites that I pointed to as part of the review. Be sure to check those out.

All the best and let me know if you have questions. Cheers

      1. 2

        Hi Colin,

Thanks a lot for the review, it's really awesome!

I really liked that each section was highlighted and that you provided examples of better implementations.

        Some questions/feedback:

        1. You were confused by what the application does, if it's downloadable or not. and said that I should answer the question "what this is". The main hero text is "self-hosted analytics". Doesn't that kind of explain what it is? Is the world "self-hosted" confusing?

        2. I saw that you said "yikes" about the footer and provied a counter-example of the average plain sitemap footer. Do you think my footer design is bad, or the contet that it's in there? I am a solo developer and I posted that in the footer, you think it should not be there?

        3. Overall the review was really great, maybe at some points you just said something like "this is bad" and then showed an example of "this is good", without explaining why one thing is bad and one good. For me some of the remarks felt like personal style preference instead of UX driven changes.
I did also receive a review from another IndieHacker, and I got mixed feedback, he actually said that he liked the animated GIFs (apart from the fact their quality could be better), but you suggested using plain images. I think it's hard to know what is the right way to go, maybe having some stats to show, that "static images do X% better" will make some suggestions in the review feel a lot more anchored.

Thanks a lot for the review, it is really useful!
I will finish the A/B testing functionality of the app itself, then I will test some of your suggested changes!

        Cristian

        1. 1

Hey Cristian :) glad to lend a hand/give more context.

          1. The main hero text is "self-hosted analytics". Doesn't that kind of explain what it is? Is the world "self-hosted" confusing?

Personally I do find this confusing. Self-hosted makes me think of "white labeling" which is a grossly over-emphasized thing in large enterprises. Second to that self-hosted makes me think of the app companies I've worked with an having our own servers IN the building. That's where I got iffy on it. Couple that with the word "analytics" which throws me to CRMs, ERP, web analytics and product analytics -- I hope I'm explaining this confusion well!

          1. The footer "yikes"

Your foot struck me as having too many goals. It was your story coupled with reviews coupled with a newsletter subscription button -- you feel me? In the example I provided, I felt that footer conveyed trust as it's goal. It was the little things I probably wouldn't have clicked like 'Terms of Service' that added just an extra layer of trust for me.

People have different behavior towards new tech/products. The more eager early adopters will perceive your site differently than late-entry audiences. Those little trust moments (and a wave of customer reviews) go a long way for those people.

          1. UX Feedback/Personal Feedback + Animated Screenshots

You're sharp! Admittedly I had low energy halfway through your website's review and eventually took a break to nap. As you can see, this whole thread somewhat blew up and I've been busy busy busy doing reviews. Thank you pointing this out (I really mean it). The quality of my review took a hit. This is a memory for me now and I promise future reviews will not suffer from this again (allow me to thank you on behalf of the other websites I haven't reviewed yet!!).

As for the animated screenshots. I like them, it's just that they're small. I'm here on a standard MacBook and I really had to lean in and stare at what your mouse was doing, where you were clicking, etc. I think if you did a full-width animated screenshot, that'd be great. But where it was divided into 2 columns and it was small.. I felt that took a bit of the experience away for me. That image, the header, and the sub-text below all made me focus on the one thing I could read easily/comprehend - the header which read "on-site & data explorer".

Anyway, I hope this additional context helps.

Please don't ever in your life hesitate to reach out to me on this sort of stuff. I've been working as a marketing/revenue analyst for 10 years now. I know my personality can come off harsh, but it comes from a good place. I can't wait to see where you take userTrack :)

          1. 2

Thanks for the response! If you are curious, I already made some quick changes to userTrack.net (no need to leave more feedback, better spend the time responding to others :) ).

            1. 1

Dude that header is stellar. I understand it. The 'insights' and 'money' is still a little vanilla for me, but it's definitely a step in the right direction :)

              1. 1

Thanks! I have been planning to add an image/diagram showing how a current setup might look like (Google Analytics, Hotjar, VWO A/B tests) and how much it would cost and how many 3rd party files you have to include compared to userTrack. I think this would make the "buzzwords" feel more grounded and make more sense.

I just started to read your review(I'm about half done) and so far it's been amazing from my perspective. It's very insightful and it makes total sense, I'm here thinking: "He's right, why I haven't thought about this".

I also saw that you're a YouTuber, if you want, I can give you a few months access to the "YouTube hobbyist" plan as a thank you for this awesome review. And if you already have(or you want to) start offering this as a service it would be my pleasure to write a review for you.

Thank you for this awesome review :)

Edit: I'm done reading it all, it's an extraordinary review, I've also subscribed to your YouTube Channel :D

I'm glad you're getting value from it :)

It's these little unspoken moments that get lost in the weeds of trying to get a business off the ground - seriously, it's my pleasure.

Since you ask, I am trying to get some more testimonials/comments from people i've helped (free or paid help) from people who get value from the work I do through my site/blog: www.marketingqualified.com.

If I could add you / your review to the list of social proof items, that'd be incredible!!

Feel free to send me an email at [email protected] with a statement if and where you have a minute. This would be an amazing thank-you item.

Hey @ppalevsky thanks for sharing your website.

Honestly dude, I'm at a weird point with my business.

In all seriousness, I am striving to be one of the greatest digital marketers in North America but not quite hitting my stride on the level of value I can bring to a customer/client.

This week with the rain and weather in my community, I wanted a win under my belt (so I wrote this).

My heart is warmed that so many people are responding with their websites and it feels good to know I'm helping in a small way.

I've been blogging about 4 years and frankly haven't gotten very far. Meeting some people here on Indie Hackers who are crushing it... I need to step up my game.

These website reviews will give me more eyes on the obstacles and gut-feelings that happen when browsing websites. I'm hoping to find out what are my biggest objections from opting-into services (to which i'll prob write a blog post).

Long answer, but I appreciate you asking :)

Totally. That's really cool though. And it's tricky.

I had a long convo w a local business owner/friend yesterday it's that whole game of getting customers abroad that FIT with what you're going after.

I've been working with startups a few years and it sucks when the marketing budget is $100 and next month's revenue target is $40k.

I like that it forced me to think differently, but I realized those kinds of companies (heavily backed VC firms) aren't the ones I want.

I want more time to bike, surf, ski, and hike. Those startups had me up til midnight stressed everyday.

            2. 1

That sounds nice. I enjoy video calls. It's your decision, but what I'm planning on doing is going through it (taking notes for myself). Then going back through the whole thing with screenshots of each section / webpage and highlight, draw, and circle things with my comments in a textbox next to them!

We could do both if you wanted. The doc-styled review and then a call if you have more questions/want to clarify anything :)

A fewwww little tweaks to be made, but I have no doubt your app is going to be widely accepted amongst musicians and upcoming labels.

The content is a bit too wide for me in a 27" screen, a bit hard to read the hero section.

Also, I recommend changing the .navi-link font-weight from bold to normal, it will look a lot better!

I easily understand what the product does and for whom it is intended. The information is in good order.

The only thing I have doubts about is whether there is a sufficient customer base for a business, but I believe that this has been mapped in your research.

Hey @belalamin - I'm happy to take a look. The part i hope to hit home on most is the copy and my feelings as to 'mmm i dont want to opt-into' this OR (hopefully) 'wow I want to opt-into this'.

Anyway, your website is on my list and I'll get back to you as soon as I can :)

      Hey @txroy001 I finished your website's review.

I know this is just a prototype, but I felt some larger sized adjustments were needed.

I hope my review isn't too critical or discouraging, but to the very best I can emphasize here online to you: this comes from a good place in my heart.

I want nothing but the best for you. Sure we're strangers, but we're on similar paths and want a more meaningful and enjoyable life doing what matters to ourselves. That makes you special to me. So much in fact I'm being very real with you.

Here's the review. I can't wait to see what you come up with :D
