SEO Key for Saas - Creating a free tool?

Hey guys,

I've seen a lot of SEO success with my SAAS clients when they build really simple (and free) online tools that either help users find out about their service or help them to get started using their service.

Ex: Shopify has a wide variety of free business tools that help users get a faster start when creating their online store.

  • Logo generator
  • Business name generator
  • Business loan calculator
    and so many more.

Benefits:

  • a lot of traffic (since they do proper seo for the tools)
  • a lot of links (since its of great value)
  • converts traffic directly after giving value
  • pass authority over to help other pages to rank

I've covered this in (and a lot more) in my latest video here:

Would love to know if you guys have tried this / or had any success with it!

I built https://saaspages.xyz/ and I have a list of other ideas to execute on :)

SaaS Pages is 1000+ screenshots of SaaS marketing sites/landing pages filtered by section. So you can quickly see the top 100 pricing sections.

That traffic is then sent to https://versoly.com/ which is a website builder for mostly SaaS companies.

Nice !! Seems like a great idea - Are you getting a lot of traffic from it?

Yep 1000s of visitors a month and folks share it in Slack etc.

I totally agree that you can have huge success with free online tools and good SEO. But TBH I don't really think one of the examples mentioned above (e.g. logo/name generators) is still a great opportunity (for most of us).

You rather have to niche down as the SEO competition is way too high in those general fields IMHO.

    What do you think?

Yeah!! Definitely not saying everyone needs to get involved in those specific free tools! You just need to focus on the problems within your specific niche and create simple and free solutions for your ideal user!

Was just giving an example of how Shopify created those free tools that work super well within their niche - and obviously, with their authority, they can rank for almost anything :)
