Serverless Javascript Error Logging and Monitoring 🙌 😄

I am thinking about building Serverless Javascript focused Error Logging and Monitoring tool.

I was planning on working on it as an open source tool, but I was thinking to maybe offer hosted solution as well for people who do not want to host it themselves if somebody finds it interesting.

Benefits of using it:

  • open source
  • quick setup
  • works with an Javascript apps, SPAs, SSR, Node...
  • typescript support
  • autoscales to handle large error bursts
  • get live information and error reports from your users
  • get all information needed to debug the issue, no need to ask client for more details
  • saves money by saving days of debugging for your developers
  • saves money by getting in front of the issue before all of your clients do

There are competitors in the market, but this would be completely open source and more Javascript focused and idea is to add on to the tool overtime to have everything you need to monitor you Javascript apps.
Do you think that maybe building a community around this tool would be beneficial?

I am curious to hear your thoughts.
Thank you! 🙌 😄

Doesn't sentry have an open-source option? Why would I choose to use your new project instead? https://develop.sentry.dev/self-hosted/

Hey @un101, I don’t want to rain on your parade but have you checked out serverless.com? They offer open source product for deployments and a pretty good paid platform with a free tier for monitoring and error reporting.

Also for client side monitoring and logging, I really like logrocket.com. You can see exactly what your users are doing and when it errors out.

I guess the questions are how would this open source project be better than these tools and are you ready to build an open source community?

I haven’t created an open source product but from my understanding it’s typically only you doing most of the work until others can see the value before they will help contribute.
