I'm working on a new project, localized and community based, Built in Miami, focused on sharing and documenting the stories behind the products made and built in Miami.
For Miami, we’re still a relatively young community, working hard to build a sustainable long-term maker and builder ecosystem. While we’ve made leaps and bounds over the last 10 years in Miami thanks to some very passionate folks, the city still lacks stories, and not funding stories – although who doesn’t love a good funding story? – but stories behind the people and products made and built right here in Miami. Stories of grit, passion, commitment, failure, success, and execution.
Built in Miami aims to be the epicenter for Miami Maker stories and resources. I've already put together a really basic guide for those Makers thinking about moving to Miami and where and how to get started.
I've got several things planned like: Maker Profiles, a Circle community, and more. Ultimately, becoming the place for Miami Makers to work together, share their progress, get feedback on projects, and support each other.
Building a community is insanely difficult and Miami presents challenges of its own, but honestly we must do a better job as a city and ecosystem in supporting local builders, makers, and creators. This is my stab at it.
If you're a Miami-based or South Florida based Maker and are working on a project, have an idea for a project, or simply want a localized support group, go to builtinmia.com to check it out and signup.
& if you're interested in helping in some way, shape, or form, don't hesitate to shoot me an email.
