Should I change the product name and domain before launching?

Hi 👋

I'm working on launching my first SAAS platform aimed at developers who sell their code from their private GitHub repositories. On starting the project I rushed into buying a domain name just to get started.

Since going through various feedback loops, a few people have suggested adjusting the product name. As I have no customers yet, you could argue it's a good idea. But on the other hand, it feels like a waste of time and money rebranding at this stage...

The current name is: 'GitShipper' - https://gitshipper.com

New name suggestion: 'GitShip' so it can be used as a verb e.g. just 'GitShip' the code etc.

What do you think?

Should I change the name this early on?

Shouldn't matter much at this stage, to be honest.

But since it's almost the same name, only shorter, changing the logo shouldn't be a big deal in terms of time (remove the extra letters and center the text again?). So I would say, if you've got the shorter domain available, go for it now; it sounds better and is more "brandable".

Ultimately it's not critical at this early stage. You could also validate your idea and then change it in a few weeks once you get reassurance that it's viable.

Thanks @typologist. Agree it’s not critical at this stage. I have a few Beta users I want to trial the platform with when it’s in production. The name shouldn’t change the outcome of their experience.

The code changes will be quick, it’s all the other bits and pieces around domain pointing and emails etc which will take their sweet time!
