Should I leave payment integration until I've validated the product?

Hey everyone, I need help!

I've been working on a project management tool for the last 6 months and I'm just about ready to launch in closed beta.

Should I roll out the beta and get feedback on the features before integrating a payment gateway or is collecting payment part of the criteria for validating the product?

Keen to hear your thoughts.

I would personally send invoices manually and ship the product right away. Most SaaS's bill ~1 month after first usage anyway, so you can always ship now and start iterating and implement billing over the course of a month.

Note: This doesn't mean you can't charge, which you should. Just have them agree to be charged at the end of the month and don't take their credit cards now.

      Thanks for the reply dternyak,
I hadn't thought of manually invoicing, that could be a great option thinking about it.

"Most SaaS's bill ~1 month after first usage" — does this exclude any free trials offered?

It's really up to you, but typically it would be 30 days after the free trial ends.

    Hi Aaron,

I think one type of feedback is exactly this one. Does the user hit the pay button? If the answer is yes "WHY", if not "WHY". And from here you can use a LEAN procedure to understand where your product should go, depending on users feedback.

    Good luck
