Should I use Zapier for my Google Sheets integration?

Hey all 👋

Wondering what peoples' experience has been with Zapier, and if you would recommend I use them to build a Google Sheets integration with my app.

My project Canopy Charts makes it easy to build really good looking data visualizations - think Figma for charts.

I want to allow users to hook up a Google Sheet as the data for a chart, so this either means coding an integration myself which would be fine, or leveraging something like Zapier to hopefully save some time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi @mroll have you made progress integrating Google Sheets into your app, since you first posted this question? If so, I'm curious to hear how you implemented it? I'm thinking about making Google Sheets one of the primary inputs into my app - however I haven't researched the interface options yet. Thanks!

Hey @kmanninen! I'm actually almost done writing a Zapier integration, which covers Google Sheets as well as many more apps.

If you have any more specific questions, I'm happy to see if I can answer them. I'm also planning on writing a detailed guide to explain everything I had to figure out in order to build this Zapier integration.

Thank you! That's great to hear! I'll be on the lookout for your guide. Is the concern about cost (relative to number of zaps, per an earlier comment) something to be taken into consideration? Thanks again for the reply.

I actually haven't done the math on cost of zaps 😅 so I'm not sure how it shakes out.

My main concern was getting something ready as soon as possible that would let my users connect data from multiple apps to my product. Zapier seems like the best way to go for that.

If cost becomes an issue, perhaps with enough people requesting it I could build dedicated integrations for individual apps.

Sounds like that will be a good problem to have. 😃 Thanks again for sharing. Best of luck!

I wish you had reached out to me about this @mroll! Was really excited to see if hotglue could have been a fit for you - but I hope the Zapier integration serves its purpose!

Hmm, personally I've found the Google Sheet integration a bit difficult to use. The other thing I'm wary of is the number of zaps it charges. So if you're constantly updating throughout the day, it could be costly.

But, if you made a template for people to use on Google Sheets and had a video on how to connect them, that should work fine I think.

You don't need Zapier to do this . You can submit form to Google Sheets with fabform.io

Hey, just wanted to jump in here and say that this is exactly what we built hotglue (https://hotglue.xyz) to help you handle! Let me know if you'd like to chat @mroll :D

Hey David, this looks super interesting. I'm not building the integration right now, but I will for sure check this out when I do :)
