Show IH: I’m building the personal notes app I always wanted (Mac beta)

Hi everyone!

I feel I’m at a point where I can show this to somebody, although it is by no means polished yet:

Life Notes - A personal notes app built on simple files and folders.

It is a Mac app for taking notes and managing personal knowledge. Everything is based on simple (HTML) files and folders. Links between notes and backlinks are working. As well as basic formatting and image support.

The cool part:

  • Since it’s backed by files & folders (no database), you can keep other documents, PDFs, etc. along with your notes (simply drag them in or add them in Finder). The app shows a preview using QuickLook and supports opening 3rd party files in their respective app (very much like Finder).

Also nice:

  • Via a naming convention (handled by the app), you can attach notes as sub-notes to other notes and other FILES. For example, let’s say you have PDF for a rental car reservation. You could add a sub-note to that with directions to your hotel and a PNG with a map.

  • You can drag .htnotes into Firefox to see their contents including images and formatting (for Safari/Chrome you’d have to rename them to .html). This allows to access notes without the app.

Feedback is very welcome!
