Hello people,

I am looking for FREE, open-source projects for web developer and digital designers.

With free I mean no PRICING at all.

They have to be towards that audience if you want to know more if they suit for the newsletter you can read and see past issues here:

This is the new newsletter.

Here is the old one on Substack.

I am going to send this Tuesday the second last email from Substack, then I
made my own templates.

Also, if you have a product that could help developers and designers and you are looking to sponsor and reach a tech audience 1268 subscribers. get in contact.
here: [email protected]

or visit the site and fill-up the form.

To be clear: From Issue N21 I will only feature free products. If a paid product wants to be a feature, then it should go through sponsorships.

Thank you, everyone!

Edit:

I forgot.
Do not link me to a sea of ads or affiliate stuff.
no Spam

I will answer each and everyone of you when I get home tonight. 5.9.20

Hi Michael! I am working on an open source mock API tool called Mocki that let's you create mock REST APIs running locally or in the cloud. You can check it out here: https://mocki.io/.

    1. 1

Hey Karl, it is open source but it has a price tag...sorry

      1. 1

You can run it completely free if you use the library at https://github.com/adalyte/mocki. And the hosted solution is currently 100% free.

        1. 1

you are linking to GitHub, where it has a link to your paid product.

          1. 2

Not associated with Karl in any way, but I think many many successful open source projects are commercial open source products. For instance Grafana/Loki/Cortex, Elasticsearch/Kibana/Logstash, Prometheus, Vue, NestJS, ....

They all provide some enterprise features (such as support or additional features) which helps them to finance the development of these products. This is a win/win situation imo.

            1. 1

As I mentioned, nothing with price tags is going to be featured.

  2. 2

    Hey there!

https://midnight.pub - it's a virtual pub/writing platform where people can discuss about their days. A tiny social network. Many people in there are working in software. It's completely free. Thanks!

    1. 1

As mentioned it has to be exactly toward web developers and digital designers.

just a bit of feedback. Please enable the scrolling bar, for accessibility more than anything.

      thank you.

  3. 2

FYI the button on your signup form simply says "button."

    1. 1

Sorry man I am still working on that page still...and I haven't notice that.

      Updated.

      Thanks a lot mate

  4. 2

Not sure if this is applicable but I recently wrote a list of free resources for web devs https://austinrepp.com/best-developer-resources/

    1. 1

Is it like a tutorial place?

      1. 1

Yea I try to write helpful articles of all kinds for developers and people building software businesses.

        1. 1

        1. 1

    1. 1

I will put you in this Tuesday.

      1. 1

        Thanks, looking forward to it.

    2. 1

Will deffinately include it. Great work, wow..

Not sure if it fits your newsletter but here goes nothing!

I just released Good Code's MVP (It's on Github at the moment, but I plan on moving to an actual domain if I validate the idea). The website offers free Adobe XD templates to help people with their HTML and CSS skills.

Here's the link https://moeminm.github.io/goodcode - let me know what you think :)

    1. 1

      You are in. Loved it.

You give the templates for free and I am charging on other project...mamma mia.

      Great job buddy.

      1. 2

        Thanks, appreciate it.

Just trying to explore the idea further before committing to anything (be it migrating to an actual domain, charging people, etc). Glad you liked it!

        1. 1

btw, In am trying to navigate, and I think the animated illustration/lottie has higher z-than the navbar, because I can't click the links.

          1. 1

Just wanted to let you know I've made one of the templates paid, thanks for offering the opportunity to be featured on the newsletter tho :)

            1. 1

Well, in that case I will have to leave it out.

I mentioned that already before. Thank you for being honest, really much appreciated it.

              1. 2

                No problem :) Good luck!

          2. 1

Thanks for letting me know, looking into it.

Hi, I have seen this post a little bit late and I don't know if you are still looking for some other projects. Here is my mine: https://github.com/ixartz/Eleventy-Starter-Boilerplate

It's an open source starter code for building a static generated blog on Eleventyjs.

Lately, I have built my website https://creativedesignsguru.com from scratch and I thought it would be great to create a boilerplate from the project. So, I have built this open source project.

Hi! This sounds like a great opportunity.

I am working on Staq, a JavaScript library for building SaaS businesses.

    Main site: https://staqjs.com
    GitHub Repo: https://github.com/staqjs/staq
    Blog: http://blog.staqjs.com/

    1. 1

you have a price tag on your demo, sorry.

      1. 2

That is just to show how users of the tool can add subscription billing to their product. The library is 100% free and open source.

If you have a suggestion about how to make that more clear I'm interested to hear what you think.

        1. 2

As you can see, the library is available for download on NPM. No purchase necessary.

          https://www.npmjs.com/settings/staqjs/packages

        2. 1

probably, that has thrown away some possible users.
Just put underneath, for demo purposes.

and you are in. This Tuesday. https://unicornsfeed.substack.com/

          1. 1

Great! I updated the demo site to include a disclaimer near the pricing section.

And I subscribed to your newsletter! Looking forward to Tuesday :)

Is an "advanced" theme for Publish (the Swift static site generator) https://github.com/sowenjub/CasperishTheme the kind of thing you might be looking for? It's a great way to quickly setup a blog.

    1. 1

are you the one that made the template or do you guys have something in common?

      https://www.tailwindtoolbox.com/templates/ghostwind-home

      1. 1

I wrote the Swift theme for Publish that generates a site similar to Ghost Casper.
To write the HTML structure, I used Ghostwind as a starting point and modified/improved it in some places. It is published under the MIT license.

Is the way I credit them not enough? I’ll ping them. (Edit: done and all clear!).

        Thanks, Micheal

          1. 1

Hello! I'm open sourcing the netcoresaas.com frontend later today (live demo on vue.netcoresaas.com). It is a boilerplate for SaaS apps, built with VueJS, TypeScript and TailwindCSS. It has Marketing, Admin and App pages, its multi-theme, multi-language, multi-organization, and more. You can checkout the repository (when its public).

    GitHub repository: https://github.com/netcoresaas/frontend-vuejs-tailwindcss

    1. 2

you have a pricing tag, sorry.

      1. 1

No problem. However the open source is free for commercial use, the pricing tag is for those who want the .NET Core backend, if they don’t they could implement any backend they want.

        1. 2

i completely understand, but on the repository, you have a link to a paid product.

    Hi,

I wrote The Python Guide For Beginners.

A series of articles for you to learn the core of the language in a matter of hours (instead of weeks).

It follows the 80/20 rule: learn in 20% of the time the 80% of a topic.

There is also a free PDF version:

I released last month a GraphQL API for WordPress, fully open source: https://github.com/GraphQLAPI/graphql-api-for-wp

      1. 1

This is the demo for playing with GraphQL:

If you want to play with the plugin inside the wp-admin, no, I don't have a demo for that, so you'd have to download the plugin and install it on some demo WordPress site.

        1. 1
