[SMYP] Sell me your product!

Hi,

I want to try out something and you can help me with it!

Pitch me your product and I will answer you with a nearly unfiltered stream of my thoughts. I say nearly unfiltered, because I will not give

  • any opinions about layout, colors or other usually controversial things.
  • any advice on how you could do better. That is your job after all!

Why are we doing this then?

Because in my 14 years of experience with my own product it usually helped me most if I just observed my users while they were using my software and mumbling the stuff that came to mind.

It usually doesn't help me when someone tells me how I should solve a problem. Because that person does not have the knowledge how I could solve it with the constraints I have and the common use-cases. This is why I won't give advice.

Talking about anything that includes personal taste when developing a product is just a waste of time in my opinion. I always build stuff the way I like it 😁

Be prepared for some honest feedback though 😊

Please remove the picture from your post, I have to work here in the comments 😉

  2. 3

    Hey, thanks for doing this!

I created an actionable Notion Dashboard that helps you getting early traction: UserBooster 🚀

I would love to have your brutally honest feedback about it!

    1. 1

      I don't do brutal 😊

      click

I understand from the title what the page is about.
Description text is good and readable.

Use case is clear to me after reading.
"Parity Pricing" no need for me, but I like the spirit!

      You're cross-selling, nice idea.

Sorry, no brutal in here. Looks great, straightforward. Don't need it myself though. Can't give feedback on the product itself, no screenshots or previews visible 😕

  3. 2

Wow @nemiah thank you so much for doing this! I worked 3 years in digital advertisement at Google and I'm now creating Adflow to solve the biggest problem I witnessed from clients: creating highly converting assets and copy quickly.

Thank you in advance for the feedback 🙏

(PS: I'm happy to hook you up with an account for our closed free private beta, if you'd like to try the product to give us a more thorough user feedback)

    1. 1

I guess I'll regret it. The posts are piling up 😂

Your page looks broken to me though😕

Sorry, but this service is for free right now and your proposition sounds complicated.

      1. 1

Are you using an ad blocker? This is a problem we are trying to figure out due to the word "ad" being in the name of our domain. Could you try to have a look at the page without the blocker turned on? I promise there is nothing strange going on 😂

        1. 1

Hey Lorenzo, I dont think it has to do with ad blockers. Page loads fine to me while using AdBlock Plus

          1. 1

Thanks for the feedback! I just pushed a hotfix and should now work fine even with adblockers on. Hopefully this is one less issue to worry about 🤞

            1. 1

              Yes, working now!

Using AI to write copy? Bold idea, not sure if I would use it though. Got what the page is about.

              Call to action, check!

              Interactive demo, molto bene!

              Readable description of target customers!

The page does not overload my senses.

Can't give feedback on the product itself , there is only one small screenshot 😕

              1. 1

Thanks for taking the time to check out the landing (twice 😅).

PS: Hopefully I can change your mind about the usefulness of the product itself. Feel free to shoot me an email at lorenzo[at]adflow[dot]ai, I'll be happy to add you to our private beta (ofc, it's 100% free – it's the least I could do given your kind help 😃)

                1. 1

I didn't say it was not useful for someone 😉

This is my opinion: there are some things computers should not do. If one day all the posts on FB/Insta/TW/YouNameIt are computer-generated, what is the reason for humans to be there? I guess we could even build computer programs to buy all the stuff computers offer. Sorry, I'm just missing the human part here.

  4. 2

14 years of experience is a lot. I would like to know what you think of Designtack, a tool to create bulk social media content in minutes.

    Thank you!

    1. 2

      Here we go…

Yeah, I know marketing is hard. What are you gonna do about it? Ah, I have to read the small text to find out the solution…

Feels a bit crowded when scrolling down. Could use more space.
      Overload, everything blinks.

Pre-made templates, good idea! Not sure what to think about "9+" templates though.

Somehow skipped the blue part on first scroll.

Differences between the plans are hard to deciper.

Gonna "Create a design" now… Sorry, won't register. Have no Twitter. Won't budge to google. Why is there no demo to just click around in?

      Clicking "use cases"… Looks unfinished.

The templates look quite similar to me on first glance. Can't edit, need to login 😕

      1. 1

        Interesting feedback. Thanks!

  5. 2

Thank you so much for doing this @nemiah

Let me know what you think of GrowthHunt, a wiki-database of business strategies case studies from founders and creators.

    Cheers!

    1. 1

      Allright, here we go:

The website is a bit raw, I don't see at first glance, what it is about. On my second look I realize the red text is the description. I initially overlooked it because I have a certain blindness to advertisement and I guess it fell in this category for me.

The call-to-action-button is hidden in the iframe and I need to scroll to see it. The pictures beneath it overload my eyes on first sight because I don't have a clear point to focus on. I have to read the quite small text below each picture to know what the picture is about.

Aha, the actual product is hidden behind the link "Database" which I also overlooked at first. When I'm on the database-page, I have to scroll down to see it. Also the database is in a "tiny" iframe, I can't get a good overview with all the text and colors.

Oh, there is a description on how to use the database!?

Wow, the strategies are quite useful it turns out. I don't get why there is an additional link on the left side though. Ah, there are multiple strategies behind one image. Didn't realize this at first. I can't make out the structure of the texts though.

      1. 1

Thank you for the feedback! Will work on the points mentioned.

        Cheers!

  6. 2

@nemiah Thanks a lot for doing this post! Would love to get your feedback on my product -> https://ruttl.com/

Furthermore, I agree with your statement. There are many constraints in the background and plus there are too many opinions on one thing as well. Better founders do what they love, test, see results and move forward.

    1. 1

Haha, nice! Looks like exactly what I am doing here!

Not sure about the main headline though. Didn't get it the first time. Animation looks promising. Bit too low contrast for my screen.

Messages are clear and readable when scrolling down…

I'm a bit overwhelmed by the three side-by-side pictures.

Seems to me like a good solution. Wouldn't let my clients comment though. Design is too loaded with emotions and opinions 😁

Price page looks quite standard to me. The differences are not too obvious though.

Not sure why there is no free demo where I can test without registration. Would have loved to try it out.

      1. 1

@nemiah Thank you so much for taking out the time to write this detailed reply! I have taken note of your feedback, will try to work on it soon!

Also, there is a free demo you can try out on our website. It's at the top left corner on the website. Is that what you were looking for?

    Hi @nemiah,

Making sales from your SaaS or eShop, or digital product is freaking hard! When it happens it should be celebrated! The problem is, receiving email or Slack notifications when you make a sale is super boring. So, I'm creating a physical notification device that turns on every time you make a new sale. It's called Gumball. It's time to celebrate your wins in style:

    Hey @nemiah

    Who doesn't like honesty ;)
We'd love to hear your take on our company Pagereview.io.

We help teams communicate with clearer and more concise feedback when conducting website design reviews. Everyone deserves a simple straightforward way to share and get feedback without the unnecessary back-and-forth.

Get contextual feedback in the form of comment boxes on your website. It's free to start and designed for teams.

Please remove the picture from your post, I have to work here in the comments 😉

  12. 1

You might be done already, but if not, here we go! :)

Tellspin lets you easily create on-call rotations directly in Slack. You can share the load across team members, ranging from helping with teammate's issues to who says the next joke at lunch.

    1. 1

      Working through the weekend 😉

Your description in the post helps me better to understand your service than your page title does.

      The animation helps, though.

Random guy sitting in front of screen, ok. Don't know slack very well, so I can only guess what @here and @channel means.

I get the impression that the service is kept simple.

Is this service billed by slack? There is a pricing-page but I can find it only at the very bottom. In the FAQ it says 4 users are for free 😉

A lifetime saving of $5/$10 makes no sense to me. Looks like a marketing trick.

      1. 1

Thank you! This is very helpful.

  13. 1

That's amazing @nemiah. Thanks for doing this.

Ha, I know exactly why you built this service!

Someone else who puts the product itself above the fold!

The black and white contrast hurts my eyes 😖 Otherwise clear and well structured.

Looks like you are aus Deutschland 🇩🇪!

Hi @nemiah and thank you for helping out. I would love to get your feedback on Smart Tab. A Chrome extension that reduces tab clutter and helps managing multiple tabs.

    1. 1

Sorry, can't really tell you a lot. I'm Firefox user and have a quite strong aversion against Google-stuff. Thus I can't try it myself.

From what I can see on the screenshots and in the description the user interface is kept simple with good legibility. I get the impression the functionality has a clear purpose.

      It was recently updated.

      1. 1

Thank you @nemiah. No problem, I can understand your aversion against Google products.
BTW, Brave is a very good alternative to Chrome. Still you can install Chrome extensions on it.
        Thanks again

Hi Nemiah! Thank you so much for doing this!

I am the co-founder of hotglue, a data integration platform built to make it easier for developers to stand up more complex data pipelines. You can find us at https://hotglue.xyz

    Thanks a lot once again!

    1. 1

      click

Nice colors, calm. Not quite sure, why I need your service at the moment.

Don't know yet with what I should get started, it says "for developers" below the fold, clicking on "Browse demos".

Sad, nice background replaced with hard contrast.
Still not sure what I can do with hotglue. Don't know databox.

      Clicking on Pricing…

Hmm, don't know what a credit is.

Ok, getting a bit clearer, moved on to "Sources". Guess I can access data on all those services via hotglue. Got it! hotglue ist a middleman between my application and those services. Not sure if I want my data to go over their servers…

Ah, back on the start page scrolling over the 7min video (sorry, busy!) the explanations are coming in. Could have saved me time.

Too many words behind "Docs". I want to see how I can access the API! Is there a library which I can use for my PHP application? Flow? Lot of fancy words, no code. It says "for developers" on the front page. I'm a developer. Give me less to read, more to do! Aah, at the bottom. Ok, looks like I have to create a flow before I can access it over the API. Long entry. What is a credit?

  16. 1

Thank you for helping out. I'd love to get your thoughts on Rocket

    Thanks again!

    1. 1

      Here we go…

Not a fan of Node, too much JavaScript. Sorry, keeping an open mind 😉

It says it helps me to build a saas app faster! Won't get access right now, want to see what it can do…

Yes, the page is right. Sorting all the technical stuff out takes time. I personally don't use frameworks though. Too much overhead in the tech stack. Takes ages to get anything important done these days. Authentication is indeed boring to build every time. Billing solved? Nice!

Checking out code demo. JavaScript! Ok, looks fancy, no clue what it does though. Probably framework-things.

      Clicking on pricing.

Only one price? Like! Looks reasonable, too. Maybe even too low. If I save hours of time… This is one-time, is it? Would be great because my next question would have been, what should I do if the author has no longer interest in the project. But this way I get a ready-made package which I can build upon and extend. If I didn't already have a saas-business with my own framework and if I'd like to do it with Node/React, I'd definitely take a closer look at it.

      1. 1

Thank you for your feedback! Yup the pricing is one time and would be increased after the launch, just getting the initial pre-orders :).

Awesome, hopefully you'll recommend some others to have a look. Thanks again!

        1. 1

Sorry, I wouldn't know who to recommend it to. I don't have the audience everyone is talking about here…

  17. 1

Sounds great! I am curious to hear what you have to say about paperless.io

    1. 1

Ok, looks like something for bigger businesses. I surely always agree with myself 😉

Woah, 3D effect coming up! Nice animation.
Ok, creating forms via drag and drop and getting the signature, got it.

Page is easy on the eyes so far.

Does this service import PDF files and create the digital forms? Would be hard, I guess. Animation suggests though.

Work together on one document, nice Covid-solve!

      Ha, Deutschland nochmal! Hallo!

Sieht so aus, als habt ihr euch viel Mühe gegeben. Viele Details auf der Seite. Leider kann ich das Produkt selber nicht direkt sehen.

  18. 1

Hey Nemiah very generous of you!

A fresh pair of eyes is very helpful.

Would like your honest opinion on BirdSend which is an email marketing tool for creators.

    Thanks 🙏

    1. 2

      Ok, lets see…

Kinda overwhelmed by the header line right now 😳

The start free button brings me to another start free button which brings me to the price list. Back to start page…

Text wall, tl;dr looks like SEO to me. I'm a human, I think 🤔

Customer testimonials, ok. Never sure if they are real. A video is more convincing though.

The image is quite generic but I will scroll over it.

Woah, a full size image of someone working! Sorry, containing myself now…

Integrations look to me like you have been busy, I like that.

More testimonials, long page. Bored by now. Going back to top.

Hoped "Demo" would show me the application. Didn't.

Ok, "free" means a trial. Expected a free plan. Not your fault!

Gonna go now, I'm kinda irritated. Your brain works different than mine obviously.

      1. 1

Thanks for the feedback Nemiah. Will take these into consideration.

  19. 1

Thanks for doing this! Much more useful than generic design feedback

I'd love feedback on screenjar.com - it makes it easy to ask customers to send you video recordings of their screen which is useful when trying to diagnose tricky support issues

    1. 1

      Ok, clicked right this time…

Nice promise, would be great for my application. Let's see…

Text below Ward a bit long, dr.
But I guess I get it. The service allows me to send links to my customers to take videos of their browser windows. Would be great if I could integrate into my application and allow recording anytime. This way I cloud offer it when an error occurs.

Clicking on pricing. $30 per month is a bit steep for me. I'd probably try to build it myself first, seems doable on first sight 😉 Would love to try without registration. Could do 5 sec video or something like that.

      1. 1

        Super helpful - thank you!

    2. 1

This comment was deleted 3 years ago.

      1. 1

Was this for screenjar.com? There’s only one testimonial on the home page and I’m not sure what you meant by the “start free” button bringing you to another start free button? There’s also no mention of integrations on the home page.

Appreciate you taking a look either way, just doesn’t sound like we’re looking at the same site

        1. 1

Sorry, got mixed up. Taking a look at screenjar tomorrow 😊

  20. 1

Hi @nemiah, it's a great idea! Thank you so much for your feedback! Here is my baby:

octox.io - The missing navigator of GitHub. OctoX is a browser extension for GitHub. It lets you navigate GitHub files, issues, pull requests, and notifications quickly on the same browser window, within a single click.

    Thank you!

    1. 1

Ok, seeing last action 10 hours ago, nice!

The screenshots make me wanna try it but I can't seem to find installation instructions. Is it available for Firefox? Need info!

      1. 1

I have just submitted it yesterday. It might need a few days or even weeks before being available on the store. I'm working on the homepage and will put the link there right after it is published.

Just wanna ask how do you think about the first impression and the short description/ sell script. Anyway, thanks a lot!

  21. 1

Great idea and very nice of you.

I would love some feedback on tabExtend - it's a browser extension that makes it easy to manage and find your tabs. The extension replaces your new tab and gives you the ability to visually organize and save sites by drag and drop. You can add notes, to-dos, and save text snippets. Arrange and collected it all in groups and categories that you create. It has been designed for speed and ease of use to help you quickly declutter your everyday workspace.

    1. 1

Finally a product I can actually try myself!

      Yes, Firefox for the win!

Love the introduction. It even tells me how often I have to click on "next"!

      Tab preview!

The look is a bit 2010, doesn't fit my browser interface.

Highlights drop area, I like! Woah, pre-selected label text!
Great user interface. Only shows what is needed for the current action.

Adding notes and tasks is quick and self-explanatory.

Looks like you put quite some love into this.

  22. 1

I hope I'm not to late @nemiah, this is a great idea

I'm working on a new landing page for PriceWell (old landing page) - a no-code tool to integrate subscription pricing into your SaaS

    1. 1

      Will be testing new version…

Not sure from the page title if it only does the billing page or the billing, too.

Ok, there are four steps. The steps seem to be important, they are bold, their content less so.

Don't know stripe but cool that it gets it's info from there.

Next question answered: Can it look like my website? Yes! Clear headers, like!

Even better, the service lets me copy the html. I feared I'd have to load it from their servers every time.

$100 seems a bit high if I'm only making $1000 a month. Plus fee, you sure?

      1. 1

Thanks, great feedback. I'm struggling with the headline TBH. We handle the whole billing process as well as the pricing/billing pages but getting that into one easy to read sentence is proving tough.

  23. 1

Hey, that marketing email your sending. The reason the open rates are so low is because half the people dont even exist!

Your wasting time, marketing spend and you look like you cant write a subject line. Use isitarealemail.com to clean up the junk addresses first.

I hope you like the hard / imaginary sell. 😀

    1. 1

Hehe, I'd like it with fewer words:

The reason the open rates of your marketing emails are so low is: Half your recipients don't exist!

Simple page, loads fast. No clutter, product test above the fold!

"4520442 emails tested" good to know you have customers!

Nice, simple api. Ready to use code for PHP too, great.

Installation support for free version, this is how you do it!

Don't get the pricing though. 100 are free. In the first three months I pay $1 for 5000 validations and afterwards it gets more expensive?

  24. 1

PayFlexi allows merchants to accept customizable payment plans from their customers at the point of checkout using their existing payment gateway.

Thanks in advance @nemiah for the feedback

    1. 2

The page makes a good first impression on me. I instantly see the headline which describes the service! There is also something to do for me, yay! Won't click right now though.

The page below the fold is clearly structured, it's hard for me to get what the numbers mean though. The description is in small text. The numbers seem kinda low but I guess you are honest.

I'm impressed with the rest of the page, it tries to convince me several times. I still don't know what it will cost me on top of my usual provider though.

Alright, I click "Pricing". Oh, there is a free model! Well, not so free after all. Another 2%. Ok, kinda expected it. The service looks quite professional to me, I guess I can trust it with my money.

Nice, it pre-selected "Germany". Stopping now because I don't use a provider for my payments 😉

      1. 1

Thanks @nemiah for the great review.

The numbers are actually key metrics that you measure for success as a business, and we try to be transparent.

In terms of pricing, what do you think would work best for you.

If I may ask, do you have a digital product? And what do you use for payments in Germany.

        1. 1

I have no problem with the numbers. I just found it hard to find out what numbers they are.

I think I'd go with the $10 because it would probably be cheaper than 2%. I'm over $500 a month.

I do. I use bank transaction, direct debit and real time transaction. But I'm a bad example because I have built myself automatic direct debits and an automatic detection of transfers 😉

          1. 1

Thanks for the feedback. We actually have a monthly subscription that gives you a discount on the percentage transaction fee. So the higher the amount you process a month, the lower the percentage fee. You can get as low as 0.5% per transaction

    2. 2

Hey, I really like your product. The website is nice and professional. Explanations are clear to me. This has the potential to be huge! Don't give up, and good luck.

      1. 2

Thanks a lot for the encouragement.

We just launched last week, and we would keep improving it and listening to customers.

  25. 1

Hi @nemiah! This is fun 🐳

Lowdefy lets you build internal tools and web apps in YAML. Think of it as easy web apps for backend devs. And its open source.

    Thanks! All the best!

    1. 2

      Ok, clicked…

I instantly get, what this product is about. But only because I know what YAML is. Or do I? DuckDuckGo confirms, it's structured text files. It says 3 minute video! Thanks for the heads up, but sorry, I'm just gonna scroll…

That's great, an animation. My software developer brain turns on and instantly doubts that I can build an actual application with text files (ok, it's always text files 😁). It's gotta be quite limited or complicated… Ah, it's a list on the left side. Didn't get that one on first glance.

There are examples! I like it! Hmm, it loads on an new page, but I don't have to install something. Tried out the survey example. A bit too strict for me. Ok, how to get back to the other examples… Not too bad, two times back did the trick. Wasn't obvious though.

Trying case management demo. It is hard for me to get an overview with the list on the left. The contrast is quite low on my screen.

Clicking on "View App Source Code". Last commit 24 days ago, good. Opened some yaml files. Looks like programming to me after all. Not quite sure what the advantage is at the moment. Closed github, two times back…

One line of code to run? Nice! Won't run though, don't have npm installed.

Wow, I can connect to a lot of services! No, I can't yet 😕

Thanks! This is really excellent feedback! Wish there was a way to get this script from every visitor.

When you are saying "a bit too strict for me" does it mean more fun would be cool? Or does it relate to the UI?

There are 86,400 seconds in a day. Each one is sold as an advertisement.

Visitors of 24hourhomepage.com will see one advertisement per second corresponding to the current UTC second of the day.

    Content repeats every day, forever.

PS: If you're interested in advertising open3A, I sent [email protected] a 90% discount for advertising on the site! 🎁

So, it's like Google but without the search engine, Gmail, Youtube, etc. Just ads.

Yes, and even better than those platforms: visitors of 24hourhomepage.com are LOOKING for advertisements to click. A captive and engaged audience.

Fun idea! A second is too short for me though. Ah, I can buy multiple seconds!

Thanks, but wouldn't help me much, open3A is in German 😉

Simple and straightforward service, I like that.

Thanks for the feedback, nemiah! The seconds you purchase repeat every day and I'm growing this to a world audience. Presently, its mostly software engineers and indie hacker folk who visit. Possibly some intersection with your services

      Ok, "click"

Great, the page tells me what I can find here! The text is very legible. Screenshot on right side is a bit confusing to me though. If I hadn't read the text left I would think of the opposite purpose.

Scrolling… Good overview of what it does. Seems like a simple app to me. Would definitely try if I had an iPhone and if I got spam texts…

      Call to action, yes!

$4 per year? Ok, sounds reasonable to me.

Nice screenshots on app store page. Small file size, too!
