SongBox breaks £400 ($520) MRR

Mick @Primer

Hi everyone. Wanted to give another MRR milestone. I'd like to be clear that this isn't a humblebrag. In the grand scheme of things this is a very small amount of money but I like to acknowledge the importance of perseverance and tenacity.

SongBox has been on the go for 2 and half years and it's been a long slow hog. Thought about giving up many times and even listed it for sale at one point.

However continued talking to customers and making incremental tweaks, experimented with pricing (a lot), worked on the homepage (a lot) and finally earlier this year started to see continual month on month growth.

My motivational North Star was that people.... even if only one or two at a time.... were paying for it. And if some stranger somewhere in the world saw enough value to pay - even in the immature state it was in - then I knew if I could continue to improve then more people would pay.

Anyway, long story short is don't give up; it rarely happens in months.

MRR This Year:

May: £66.78
June: £104.89
July: £159.17
August: £191.98
September: £315.79
October: £349.62
November: £409.97

Hey Mick, great update! The graph is definitely going in the right direction. What was the turning point for you? Did the rise in MMR coincide with more landing page visitors?

    1. 2

It's really hard to say because I was constantly making so many improvements to every aspect of the platform. But if someone put a gun to my head and made choose one thing, I'd probably say pricing.

Since SB launched I've been all over the map with pricing from $8 a month to $50 and various combinations of tiers.

A few months ago I went with 3 tiers at $10, $20 and $30 and that seemed to have a significant effect in uptake. Now almost all of my members are on the $20 or $30 dollar tier and they seem to have much more professional use cases than simply musicians sending tracks out.

congrats man that's huge! I took the easy way out and just bought something at ~$1k MRR haha

  3. 2

Good work :) Keep it up.

  4. 2

Congrats Mick! That MRR is showing a very promising growth! Even £400 MRR still seems so far off for me.. What are you currently doing for marketing/sales?

    1. 1

Honestly.... absolutely nothing. It's all organic growth. I'm looking at doing some campaigns here or there but it's really not my thing. For now I'm happy with how its going just on its own.

  5. 2

Gratulations, you really sticked to it and it seems you are on the right track.

  6. 2

    Congrats Mick, On to 1k!!

    1. 1

Haha I love the positivity. I'm sticking with "onto £500" for now.

Slow but steady. Kudos on the perseverance . I checked your page, love the idea. Even in the music business it's important to test your product. Keep it up! 💪

    what a nice update! 👏
p.s. i've checked out Songbox and to be honest i did not get right away what you are offering , maybe i'm missing the point since i'm not a target :)

    1. 1

Yeah it's one of those ones where if it's for you, you immediately get it and if it's not you kinda don't. But that's fine. Thanks for the kind words.

  12. 2

I like the trend! Tenacity is an amazing thing.

  13. 2

    Inspiring, thanks for sharing.

      Thanks and you're welcome.

A little late to the party. But congrats on the solid revenue growth. This looks to me like your SEO is kicking in, which means you could expect to see increasing gains over the next months. So are a lot of the sign ups happening via organic search after all?

    1. 1

Yeah mostly organic traffic for sure. Since posting this my MRR is now £600 ($800).

      1. 1

Looks like it should break the GBP 1k level in 4-6 months. Nice.

May i ask what languages etc you used to build Songbox? and what app is that screenshot of your MRR.

Thank you did you use HTMl/CSS/JS python? are you a programmer.

Thanks sorry again for the questions, i dont know how to code but have a few saas ideas

        1. 1

HTML/CSS are a staple for any web site, so yes.

I have some javascript in there too, yes.

Laravel is a PHP framework so the logic of the app is PHP.
