Starting a new startup, gonna post my progress every day

Hi All,

I'm officially starting a new startup today. I'm not building something huge, my main purpose (other than making this world better) is to get some pocket money so that I could spend less time on freelancing and more time on my main startup, flyent.

I'm writing this post so that I could make a promise to do at least one small thing every day and write about it in the comments.

The idea is to make a Chrome add-on that hides toxic and offensive comments on Facebook (and, possibly, other sites). Then open up the API so that other sites could use it for their comments.

Here's the plan:

  1. Validate the demand by creating a landing page and collect user emails.
  2. Create a POC.
  3. Try to presell it using a crowdfunding site (if you have any recommendations, please tell me).
  4. Build it
  5. Launch
  6. Get rich quick.

I'm planning to spend 1 week on items 1-3 and 1 week on the rest so that I get it out before the U.S. elections. I'm setting a target of 500EUR in revenue by 1 Nov, including presales. The final goal is to get to 2,000 EUR MRR, but maybe I'll get more ambitious in the process.

Am I crazy or not?

My first step today was checking for competitors. Naturally, there are none. Normally, it would mean that this idea is either impossible or irrelevant. But for a modest startup like mine, it's good that there are no bigger players around.

My next goal is to build a POC. I'm planning to learn how to create a Chrome addon tomorrow.
