Startup Name

silly question here, do you really care about the name of your future startup being register already?

Do you check the uniqueness of your name being available? Example Clubhouse was registered decades ago, still they named like that.

Can I name my company whatever ? of course, not apple , google MS... don't want to be crush.

So If am gonna do a pancake company , I name it pancakeX and the name is already registered in my country here https://www3.wipo.int/branddb/en/ . Do I really care?

re:registration - depends primarily how large you can see the project becoming. If it is a venture-funded/fast-scaling company, then it helps to register the brand name. If it's an experiment or a burner-project then the effort is not worth it.

Having a unique name makes it easier to own various touchpoints:

    • organic brand name google search
    • branded handles on social media sites ... @brandnameX
      ...

I usually use an exercise called: Brandstorming ⚡️

I wrote about the exact process here: http://newsletter.artlapinsch.com/issues/naming-a-company-and-building-my-tech-stack-v1-0-issue-16-657653

Avoid trademarked names or names of established businesses operating in the same domain as yours. Legally it comes down to whether a customer could reasonably be confused by the name. But I think you may be conflating business names with domain names.

Hi! It really depends on the company, but it's worth doing a bit of quick searching to see if anyone in the same sector is using a similar name to you. Naming is important, but not everything as you rightly say! If you'd like to discuss this further feel free to pop me an email!
