Looks like Stripe ruffled some feathers by migrating Stripe Subscriptions to Stripe Billing pricing adding a 0.5% fee. Some feel like it was a bait-and-switch. What do you think?
Also, I've noticed over the past couple of years that Stripe's offering has gotten more complicated and difficult to understand. Their pricing page is really long now! (https://stripe.com/pricing)
Same old tired story. Stripe is getting bigger and greedier. Trying to pretend they're still the same "cool, disruptive startup" they used to be. Claiming they need to charge another half a percent to "justify investment in Billing." They are hugely profitable, I don't believe their disingenuous excuses for a second.
Are there any good alternatives though? I heard working with Braintree is a pain. Some people have mentioned Paddle but I think it’s more expensive (hard to tell, their pricing page is not transparent) and Europe focused (e.g dealing with cross-border taxes and compliance). I’m in the US and don’t need those features.
I think Stripe is raising prices because they can, because there aren’t any better alternatives.
I agree with you! And that's their prerogative. I just dislike when these companies pretend they aren't just raising prices because they can.
Yeah. That’s why I’m leaving Mailchimp. Every year they ratcheted up the price until it went past my breaking point. At least for email marketing there are a lot of good alternatives.
worst part is it's ultra cumbersome to migrate existing recurring customers
if I can't auto migrate their cards, more than 0.5% of them will churn
when 0.5% becomes $300/mo, I'll probably roll my own solution on top of Stripe
That sounds really frustrating! Thanks for sharing your experience.
