SuperSimpleSignup 🚀- add a sign-up form to your site in under 2 mins, HTML only, thoughts?

Howdy all,

I've been working on a whole bunch of ideas for a while now and whenever it came to building a landing page to start collecting signups was always annoyed by how the 'simple' solutions often needed knowledge of PHP/backend dev (I can do a bit of HTML/CSS but that's about it) or using one of the massive Mailchimp-esque brands (often overcomplicating things) to add on.

My friend coincidentally had been playing around with things and had ended up writing some code (using Elixir if you're interested) that allows you to add a few simple lines of HTML to a site and create a form that connects to a hosted database. Luckily he mentioned it to me and we decided to try and make something of it!

That's pretty much how SuperSimpleSignup (https://www.supersimplesignup.com) came about.

We want to make it really easy for everyone to test their ideas out in a really lightweight way and soon we also want to celebrate as people reach their milestones/help them by giving comparables/analytics that can help them improve their conversions.

It's now fully built and are looking for people outside of our close circles to take a look and let us know what they think.

Any and all feedback welcome and if you include your site in the comments I'd be happy to give my thoughts on your site/idea!

I commend your efforts, the style of the site is fresh with a bit of 'hustle' about it.

My question to you @michaelheap is where are your customers needs either over-served or under-served by the competition?

Hubspot, ConvertKit, MailerLite.. all these are marketing tools that extended their products into the Landing Page space, which included offering sign up forms that integrate easily with websites.

So, if you know which features are over-served by these tools (i.e. less important to users yet they are very satisfied by those features) then you know where to compete - faster or cheaper or both.

If you know which features around a signup form are underserved (i.e. more important to users and has not been satisfied), then you have a clear set of unmet needs you can build for.

The real question is, what's important to your market and what are they unsatisfied with? Automations are very important to marketing people, maybe having a Zapier or Integromat integration is a solid option.. only your target market knows.

A good first step is to go and reverse-engineer the features into "needs" from Hubspot, MailerLite, MailChimp etc relating to email signup forms. You can use this information to create a survey or do some hands-on research. Where are the gaps in their approaches? These companies are so focused on "bundling" features and products together, something that you find out is important might not be built by them for years due to other engineering priorities.

Focus on a section of their markets and slowly eat away at them by serving your customers far better than they do in one specific area. You will build a loyal customer base this way.

You've already done something that most people would not have - congrats. I hope you find a path and a niche that really works for you.

I really like this framework for thinking about things, and value the time you put into crafting this response! So thank you, I'll definitely be putting this into action.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you or your projects.

    It's good.
I recently had to put a signup form on a Hugo site. (It's a static site generator.)

Ended up using Mailchimp and their form integration is rubbish.

Add Zapier so that people can zap their signups into whatever else easily.

Completely agree, also a massive lack of easy customisation I thought.

Thanks, Zapier is definitely high on the list!

Hello Michael, I would like to encourage you to continue building such products. So published it on Product Startups today

I made a similar product around a year ago, got #4 on PH. We managed to get quite a few free trial sign-ups but did not get any sales. The market is very saturated and there are thousands of solutions to collect emails from people. I would personally rather use Converkit or other solutions on the market that offer a lot more for free. Anyways, best of luck to you!

Oh really? Do you have any time to chat? Would love to hear a bit about your product and what you tried/learned!

To be candid there are 100s of these built. A new one is launched on IHs every week.

From the website I didn't see any special USP.

Why didn't you use something like https://formspree.io/ for your landing page? (If you can answer that you might figure out a USP).

Thanks, I did hear this was the case but I honestly didn’t find any of them when I was looking!

Since starting and building I did find out about formspree (which is obv 👌) but I think:

      a) it’s a pretty massive potential market for multiple participants
      b) we want to grow it past being a product and more of a community (almost a corollary to IH) where you can share your validated stats and compare with similar businesses etc, but to get there we had to start with something!

Helpful to know re: no USP, will have a think about how we can do this at this stage.

Appreciate you taking the time to look!

Sounds interesting. What is the one thing we should know about your product? And why we should walk away from form builders in the market?

Good question, and not got this across in the landing page (as it isn’t built yet) but:

Our goal isn’t to help you build just a form, but to help increase signups/test ideas quickly by getting people to see what one another is doing, what works and what doesn’t and to celebrate sign up milestones and achievements.
