Switched To Standing Desks And Saw Huge Productivity Boost! ✔️

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to do experiments to my work place lately. So, I decided to give standing desks a try and now I can't seem to see a reason why I would switch back to sitting position! The productivity boost is just too big!

standing desks

Why did I switch In the first place?

Work from home is now a regular thing but I've realized that sitting comfortably in bedroom might not be the best for my working speed. I was starting to see a decline in my working speed and wanted to try out something new.

One of my friends recently shifted to New York and he purchased a standing desk at his place. While talking to him over video call, I found the idea quite interesting and decided to give it a go. I didn't want to spend anything before I tried it, so I simply hacked together one by using a portable table on top of my dining table

Benefits of Standing Desks

  1. Standing keeps you in a active brain state and you can actually notice the difference when you try it out. I am able to complete my Brutask lists of tasks significantly faster than before
  2. According to health care experts, it has multiple benefits like lower blood sugar levels, reduced risk of heart diseases and less back pain.
  3. You will feel positive when you work in standing positions.
  4. You can do things like you won't sit until you finish your task. That'll prompt you to complete the tasks much faster than usual.
  5. You'll burn some calories, which is needed in this ever-so pandemic environment!

In case you want to buy one, here's a useful link I found online.

How do you find it? Does the treadmill function get a lot of use?

Don't remember anymore I think I saw it in some youtube video 🤔

Bought it online and yeah I use it every day, when I am at the standing desk I always use the treadmill, I find it much easier to endure than just standing and less strain on my knees too for some reason, at least they don't hurt 🤔

I totally agree with the benefits mentioned for the standing desk. Quarantine is taking up our productive selves and everyone around is getting lazy. It is really necessary to stay active as it not only physically helps but also internally. I myself wanted to try this plan out by using a standing desk or walking treadmill. I went over this article and it really helped me out: https://besttreadmillchoice.com/best-treadmill-under-1000/

Important notes for standing desk noobs: you want a sit-stand desk, like flexidesk. Also, get a good soft mat to stand on. If you want to take it to another level, I also alternate a lying down desk

Great advice. I got a standing desk about 8 years ago, definitely a great investment.

And during lockdown, I thought I'd try to go one step further, which is to get a treadmill under it. Now I do 5km walks every day while working :) I only have to stop walking if I need to focus on a tricky task, but it's otherwise very relaxing and energizing.

I did try standing position while Coding . More of my attention was on standing than logic.

I don't know why, but for some reason I just can't do deep work while standing. I can do light work like email or research while standing. But for coding/design/strategy I have to sit.

I've bought a motorized desk many years ago. I highly recommend it. You don't want to just stand or sit, you want to stand and sit throughout the day, to change positions. Staying in one position all day, whichever it is, is the problem. It goes a bit beyond that. Because it's motorized and it goes up and down very easily, I constantly change my position throughout the day even if I don't stand, just by changing 15cm up and down, reclining the chair or sitting upright, etc.

It's also very important to not use the laptop form factor. Use an external monitor or keyboard or both so that the monitor is ahead of your eyes and the keyboard is ahead of your elbows.

I have standing desk, but only do standing when my back really starts to hurt 😅

Thanks for confirming my experience, I built myself a standing desk a few months ago, too. Now I alternate between sitting and standing and it's working really great for me.
