"Tell all" of how I got #1 Product of The Day on Product Hunt 🚀

Thanks largely to your support, Removaly got #1 of the day on Product Hunt earlier this month! I just wrote up a Twitter thread about how I did it:

Obviously though there's only so many words you can type per tweet on a Twitter thread 😆, so while I think it's super helpful, it may need a deeper dive...

What are your thoughts on if I should make a more in-depth guide and post it here?
  1. YES you should do that!
  2. No, the Twitter thread was more than enough.

Removaly perfectly meets the nerve of the time: Privacy. (I voted up as well)

Congrats on your launch and good luck in the future, Kyle 👋

Thank you!! And we certainly hope so 😊

    Thanks for sharing! And congratulations!

How do you see the retention of users coming in from PH?

My experience is that some products do better than others. If the product's target audience isn't really the PH crowd, there's a lot of new user registrations to check it out, but not many stay. Is this something you saw or explicitly tried to address?

      These are GREAT questions @stpe.

My experience is that some products do better than others.

Luckily our product casts a wide net so I'd say we fell into the "better than others" / "target audience" category. You're certainly right though that there were a lot of new user registrations just to check things out (see #9 on my Twitter thread).

How do you see the retention of users coming in from PH?

Our "business model" is to offer a free scan so people can see where their personal information is exposed and then we offer a paid plan to have their information removed -- We actually charge on a yearly basis since we also scan every day to make sure if their personal information comes back up, we find it and remove it promptly (like a maintenance contract almost)... So "retention" per say is hard to determine with the paid users who signed up until a year from now, but so far so good!

...there's a lot of new user registrations to check it out, but not many stay. Is this something you saw or explicitly tried to address?

TBH, we didn't try to explicitly address the issue of a bunch of free users coming to check it out. In fact, that was one of our hopes to stress test the system with A LOT of users coming in at one time (sure there are other ways to do that, but this one is more fun hah). We were able to find and resolve a lot of issues from the launch so we were incredibly happy with that aspect of it.

Directly though answering your question though, we saw this to be a true as well. We had a LARGE influx of users who didn't stick around (though we have seen ripple effects as well of continued growth since our launch). We also have a pretty good workflow of "personalized" follow ups with free users so I would certainly suggest people at least have that in place when launching on Product Hunt (as well as offering a steep discount for the launch day).

Thanks for this info. Read the product hunt post and full Twitter thread 💪.

You are good a this, this IH post is even trending lol.

The amount of followers you gained in 1 month is pretty impressive to me. I guess I need to engage better 🤔.

      Thanks for reading!

I don't necessarily consider myself "good" at it, I just try to contribute useful content and it seems to be taken well 😀

Tbh I thought the amount of followers I gained was nothing to compared to some guides I read, "I got 12,000 followers in 3 months" ha! I don't think it's realistic to grow that much, but it's very realistic to get a few hundred followers in the span of a month if you're spending a lot of time engaging with others.

      I hope that helps!

That's awesome Kyle. I've seen that! Congrats!

When will you add support for Poland? ;)

    1. 1

      Thank you!

If I'm being honest, probably not soon. We're trying to solidify the US market and attempting to get good market share there and then will look into branching out to other countries. Thanks for asking though it's always good to hear there's interest worldwide!

I'm also open to feedback if there are certain things you think I missed, so let me know!

I tried to keep it broad (as I only had 280 characters per tweet) so I didn't cover things like "Use a video as the first graphic/media on your listing"

Congrats, Kyle! I did a launch on Product Hunt (https://www.producthunt.com/posts/cto-toolkit) around the same time this month (August) but only got 4 upvotes, oops. Thank you for sharing your tips. Two things I didn't do:

    • 5/ Give An Incentive
    • 10/ Post Status Updates Throughout The Day

Hi Kyle, Neat Job. The idea of hiring a service to scrub your name from the internet is cool. How did you strategize your business model for when your usage scales up ?
P.S We are also in the same space but with different targets with NFTDetect.com

      Hey, thanks!

How did you strategize your business model for when your usage scales up ?

Well we certainly have kept scale in mind while building the business. Thankfully most of what we've built is automated so it scales up quite nicely. Let me know if you had anything specific in mind though that you think is hard to scale and I can probably give you my thoughts on it 👍

Hi Kyle, What are your tech stacks / services for some of the automation that you are doing ?

        1. 1

Most of the automation within Removaly is custom built, but for instance, you can accomplish most automated emails through either setting up a campaign within your mail service or by hitting their API.
