TESOL job board - 6 months update

I run https://tesolhub.co

It's a TESOL job board. TESOL means Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

I have been working on it on and off for a little while.

Those are the results so far.

Revenue is $0 but it costing me nothing to run.

The huge increase in the number of clicks and impressions on Google is due to moving from CRA to Nextjs which has better SEO performance out of the box.

I haven't run any ads but I post a couple of times a months on some Facebook groups related to teaching.

I have a blog and somebody writes 1 article per month on it.

I saw on another post that an indiehacker is paying $10 a day on Facebook ads to drive traffic to their job board.

I haven't done that personally and I am not sure I want to go down that road for good reasons at this time.

The TESOL industry is not doing well at the moment. The whole industry is in shambles due to COVID.

The industry relies on English speaking teachers traveling to non-English speaking countries and teach there for a few years.

Then the teachers usually go back to their home country to find another job(the turnaround is pretty bad in the industry due to the low pay) or switch countries to find a better paying job.

As you can see, at the moment travel is heavily restricted around the world and that's not going to change anytime soon.

So whats the plan?

I plan to keep maintaining the site and promote it on Facebook groups for free for the next 6 months. Then as the world moves on from the pandemic, I'll start an aggressive ad campaign on Facebook for a couple of months.

Once I have good deal of traffic dues to the ads, i ll reach out to the schools( I have about 7000 email addresses from schools that I have gathered in the past 6 months) and market my job board to them as they reopen and re-hire teachers.

Somebody said, when life gives you lemon, then make lemonade. That's what I am doing albeit slowly.
