Hi everyone,
yesterday afternoon I've published my first blog post. I'm tracking the blog using Google Analytics (yes, still need to setup Cookie Consent), and I shortly want to share how this first post went for me so far.
I still need to find the best way to exclude myself from the Google Analytics data. Until then, I'll divide the results up into the following groups: visitors from Germany (my home country), visitors from Poland (my developer's home country) and visitors from all other countries (currently Australia, Canada, Egypt, Israel, North Macedonia, South Africa, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States).
I posted the blog post yesterday around 3:30pm. The total analytics results for the day yesterday are as follows:
Let's start with the group 3, which definitely are users that were neither me nor my freelancers. Unfortunately that group also has a very unimpressive engagement of 0:39 minutes on average with 13 unique users and 22 views.
UPDATE: The next day the same countries had a much better engagement of 1:46 minutes. That's pretty nice!
In comparison group 1, country Germany, has a bloated average engagement time of 4:04 minutes with 9 unique users and 152 total views. Now I'm not sure whether GA counts a user as unique whenever I open the website in a new Incognito browser tab, but probably my girlfriend and family are also part of those stats.
I tried posting the blog post on HN, IH and three Discord communities where I'm active.
What I'd love to hear is how your experience with your first real blog post was. What were your numbers? How did you end up setting up your Analytics? Any advice for me?
Some of my to-dos going forward:
Good luck!
