The loss of quiet

The loss of quiet.

"Man, I'd love to run my own startup one day."
"You guys are lucky"
"Great product! nice job!"

These are things I hear all the time as an entrepreneur.

But there's only one problem. I don't feel successful.

In fact, most days I feel like I'm riding a bike with no brakes down a hill. I'm just swerving and trying to keep from crashing.

It's terrifying. If we make one wrong move, if we don't swerve fast enough, if a strong enough breeze hits us sideways, the whole company could go tumbling down the mountain.

I think the thing I miss most from the time before I started my company is the quiet. I used to enjoy sitting on a chair, playing my guitar, playing video games and just letting my mind wander.

I used to refer to this as my quiet time. I loved it. Even though my mind was active, it wasn’t racing. It was simply wandering.

I love running this company and I love being an entrepreneur. I love building something with a group of people.

I love knowing that my dreams and ideas have somehow coalesced into a physical thing that is making money and helping business owners from all over the world each and every day.

Wanna run your own company? be ready to lose your peace of mind. But - you're gonna love it.

  1. 1

Do you have a lot of stakeholders, e.g. investors, employees, overbearing clients?

It makes a huge difference what kind of company you're running.

But yes, there's a loss of quiet, a loss of peace of mind, in fact.

But that's what we signed up for, innit? :)
