The NCPs Unknown in B2B Market

This is what keeps me up at night: do the B2B world even have a sustainable market for the next ten years? Let me be more specific: do no-code platforms have a long-term future in midsize businesses?

Some of you might say that the market signals are clear, and there is a market. And I get it why it's reassuring to a particular extent: look at all the major players investing in low-code/no-code platforms (Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce); look at dedicated vendors like Unquork, Mendix, Appian, Outsystems, Pega, etc. They all appear to say that we are safe, and this is the "exponential beginning of the no-code revolution." Furthermore, all of them are doubling down on the message that their platforms will never replace dev workers/dev work [...]; essentially, they promise qualitative & timely outcomes for the "employee developer" (attn., I am not referring to a citizen developer here).

The promise is even more significant than that: you won't need a developer to create your business app and solve your business/department problem. I've seen well-established CPQs, SPMs, CRMs, HCMs, Subscription Management, etc. vendors, that are now positioning as no-code platforms. Is marketing losing it or riding the no-code wave? :)

My follow-up question is: would the employee invest his 1% to build an application that will make his work more efficient and essentially save money for their employer? Also, will IT allow them to have the proper permissions? Finally, will there be someone that will create a CRM-like/ERPs-like application when there are thousands available in the market?

I guess it might be a bit late to ask myself this question, but I am really interested in your opinion. What will happen with NCPs in the enterprise space?

Much appreciated and with the utmost respect,

Would you create a business application from scratch at your company using a no-code platform?
  1. Yes, but I think I will need professional development skills
  2. Yes, I will do it if a NCP will have everything I need
  3. Definitely not
  4. Maybe, depends for how much ($$$)
