Thinking of adding a membership plan... 💵🤔

I posted recently about wondering if I should raise my prices of themes on buildfaster.co.

Pretty much everyone said that I should. But others also requested that I should add some way for customers to select a pack of themes or get unlimited access.

I've decided to add a membership plan where for $90/mo (still thinking of final price), you would get all current themes + future published themes.

  • Do you think I should stick with this idea?
  • Should I change the monthly price?

Your feedback is super helpful to BuildFaster so don't hesitate to respond :)

You can purchase the plan on Gumroad here: https://gum.co/gGotm

I think $99 per month does sound a bit high, especially as I think the total of all your products wouldn’t add up to much more than that as a one off purchase. I suppose it depends what sort of support and updates you would offer as a value add for subscribers.

Consider your competitors such as Envato Elements, you get access to a massive selections of creative assets for ~€15 euros per month. https://elements.envato.com/

Also a sort of similar product is Tailwind UI, I like the one off pricing model of $249 for lifetime access and updates. https://tailwindui.com/pricing

Maybe when you have more templates available, a one off purchase of all of them for a few hundred dollars might make sense, so when you have $500 worth of templates, someone could buy all of them for $350 or something, just throwing ideas around.

I don’t think there is an ethical decision in charging a good amount of money for something you put a decent amount of time into supporting, but purely a business decision about what will make you the most money. The good thing is you can always change your pricing model so it’s good to test, I look forward to hearing the results.

Something like $99 sounds reasonable. What's the ethical consideration?

You have some paying customers. You should e-mail them and ask :)

$90 sounds steep, but if you're knocking out awesome themes constantly, there might be a market for people building tons of websites (maybe freelance designers or something?)

Very true. I understand that. I might be leaning towards selling packs of themes instead.

      Thanks for your input :)

I think a membership plan would help add a monthly revenue to BuildFaster 👍. Try it out, adjust the price as needed, and I think this could bring you good money 😉
