Hi @rosiesherry - if you can get a chance try and visit Vriti's City of Learning. It took the team a few months to build but it is an incredible Gather world: https://www.k20educators.com/past
It is very easy to set up Gather. I use it sometimes when I teach. You just have to create an account, select a map, send an invite link, and everyone shows up-- super easy! and it accommodates up to 25 ppl under the free plan. I like using it to separate people into small groups (I don't like zoom's breakout rooms). However, if I find that if I stay too long in it, sometimes I have connection issues.
I had no idea this product existed, seems so fun! I hope you are asking because you want to set up an indie hackers conference or something. If so count me in.
I ran a few events on hopin.com last year (when the Premier League decided to play all matches to empty stadiums) which morphed into a dating app. Wonder.me has a similar sense of immersiveness to gather.town, "better" suited for conferences and corporate gatherings.
I say all this because, as you already know, a good understanding of organizing and managing events and speakers and hosts may also be required in addition to the ability to create assets and rooms and virtual worlds. Gather certainly makes it fun and easier and perhaps @bentossell already knows exactly what he's looking for in his space, but just wanted to throw this out there for our fellow IH'ers to ponder. ✌🏾

As part of one of our Bad Unicorn drops we also put together a startup themed murder mystery https://scarebnb.rentals/#murdermystery
It's very easy... and lots of fun!
