Tiny Steps (Day 234)

Little things add up if we take the time to do it.

I have the hourly announcement switched on on my laptop, and every hour I take a 5-minute break to just drop down and do 10 push-ups, squats, or sit-ups. Nothing stressful.

I have finally started to use my standing desk, try to stand while working as much as I can, but I'll just sit down to work whenever I feel tired physically. No stress, tiny steps, and it feels good at the end of the day.

Not sure if it'll grow into a more serious habit like what the book Atomic Habits suggests, but physical exercises in between long computer time feels refreshing. Keeping it "tiny" makes it totally stress-free and doesn't require any self-discipline to overcome the resistance; it actually improves my mood doing it.

It is also true for learning and working on projects. Keeping things in bite-size, progress can be made daily--a rewarding feeling, and it boosts your confidence.

A note to myself, sometimes I focus too much on the numbers--how many books or articles I've read, and not having enough emphasis on applying the knowledge. I need to slow down and really learn instead of just "finish reading", so I should keep my reading list "tiny" as well--not just aiming to "consume" but try to "digest" and "internalize" the new knowledge.

This year has already been stressful in so many ways. Don't stress yourself out with lofty demands. We can continue to work towards audacious goals without adding more stresses with tiny steps.
