Tip: Increase traffic and boost SEO with holiday link-building

Asking for links works a lot better when you're providing information that a site is actively seeking. Find the sites and journalists who wrote niche best-of listicles last year and reach out before they write this year's list.

Stacy MacNaught of MacNaught Digital suggests an easy way to build links from holiday lists like "Best [holiday] gifts for [recipient]." Stacey's tip is designed with e-commerce in mind, but it can work for info products, SaaS, etc. by targetting other time-sensitive lists like, for example, "Best Cyber Monday SaaS deals." If your product would make a good addition to a list like that, go to Google, search for the list, and click the "News" tab. Now, click "Tools," then "Recent," and select "Custom range." Set a range from a few months before the event up to the event date of last year. What you're left with is a list of sites and journalists that wrote relevant lists last year. These folks will likely be updating their lists again this year, so all you've got to do is reach out and give them the information they need about your product (along with free access). You can reach out via socials or by finding their email addresses with tools like Hunter. Rinse and repeat with every relevant, time-sensitive list you find.

This is a great idea and not something I had thought of in the past. In your experience, do the journalists/site owners generally accept these kinds of requests?

I know there are ways to get links but realistically never thought about how easy it might be to just reach out to the author of the content.

Hey @specialcharacter, not sure about the response rate — this was sourced from SEO Notebook, so we haven't personally tried it. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes! Good luck 🚀
