π Hi IndieHackers! I'm a co-founder of Outdone, a machine learning powered gift recommendation engine. The tech behind our product is seriously cutting edge, but neither member of the founding team is a developer.
At times, this fact can be super stressful. Sure, we're guiding the ship, but we're trusting a team of developers to bring the idea to fruition. It's particularly stressful knowing that we cannot always challenge their approach, simply due to a lack of understanding. So how did we bring this concept to the world?
Here are my tips to other non-dev founders out there:
π§ 1. Know your limits.
Don't be afraid to outsource the build if it will make the difference between a mediocre product and a great one.
π€2. Find a dev team that you completely trust.
Interview a bunch of candidates and don't settle!
β3. Ask tons of questions.
Even if you might not understand the answer, ask anyways. Eventually the concepts will become more familiar.
π4. READ!
Try to find books on the concept that aren't too esoteric.
Above all, remember that as a founder, you don't have to do everything. But you should be able to describe the back-end of your product intelligently. This will make all the difference when it comes to selling it to the world.
Other non-dev founders, what tips did I miss?
