Tips to Create a Mobile App Demo Video

I wanted to create a video demo for my personal finance management mobile app Pleke. I think it'll a major factor leading people do invest time to install and configure Pleke for their needs.

First I googled how to make an app video and got the link below, with nice points and an overview of the process. My video turned out to be very very long (11 minutes) because I tried to show how to configure and use my app.

How to Make an Effective App Demo Video

Then I found this gem and made an audio script first, using Grammarly. Then I just copied parts of my long video to fit the audio. Voilà!, a three minute video.

Why You Need to Try an Audio-First Workflow for Your Videos

Here is the video I created, would love some feedback!

Tools used:

Script Writing - Grammarly
Text to Speech - freeTTS
Phone Emulator - Android Studio
Video Capture - ApowerREC
Video Editing - Camtasia

    Hi @mauricio,
I recommend doing the video again from scratch (and by that, I mean the editing, the original video may very well be re-used).

Maybe even split it into several smaller videos. I'm not in finance, but I understood close to nothing - I don't see the coherence between the segments.

To be brutally honest: don't use a text to speech. That voice is beyond horrible. You may think of it as an automation hack, but it's bad, really bad. I recommend you record the sound yourself or hire someone, or maybe even an acquaintance (sure, it'll be more work, but the result will be orders of magnitude better).

For video editing, if you're on windows, let me do a shameless plug: https://cinematicstudio.app - my video editor.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm worried that you didn't understand the video because it's about a personal finance app.

I'm using text to speech because it's easy to edit, once I'm comfortable with the video and have available funds I'll get someone to record it.

I redid the video, could you take a look and let me know what you think?

It does look better. About getting someone to record it - it doesn't need to be expensive. Since it's a simple text, probably $50 or so should cover it. But yeah, it's up to you

    Why?

Have you ever personally installed an app before of a video demo? I haven't. I won't recommend it unless you are doing B2B and your target is enterprise. A good copy and landing page should be enough. Best of luck.

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is thousand of pictures glued together.

Apple and Google encourage having video previews on their stores because they know it drives downloads.

      From App Previews:

"App previews demonstrate the features, functionality, and user interface of your app using footage captured on device. You can have up to three app previews for each language your app supports, and each preview can be up to 30 seconds long. The following tips can help you create compelling previews that spark interest and drive downloads of your app."

I'm just speaking from my own personal experience so I could very well be very wrong. Have you ever used a video to drive your trying an app?

I used videos to install games before installing to check if was the game play I was looking for.

As the user needs to invest a fair amount of time on my app configuring accounts and a budget before earning benefits, I must add anything I can do to convince them to give it try.

Next I will invest on blog posts about debt reducing, budget creation and reaching financial goals using my app. Everything is on the menu, even tiktok lol

Makes sense, I'm a "power user" so I suppose I just try apps or go off reviews/recommendations. But you're right, there's probably a large group that wish to see what it does before they try. Best of luck!
