Tips to grow your Twitter following!

Hi everyone!

In June this year I had less than 50 followers and I just crossed 5,000 a few days ago on Twitter.

Here are some of the tips I have for you as you build in public on Twitter. It's a playbook to help you grow on Twitter and get your Tweets seen.

Have embedded the tweets, but if they don't load for some reason, check the thread out here

Hope this was helpful!

    Great post!

I've been studying people like you who grew their following by 10x in 6 months. One thing I've noticed is tweet frequency. People who grow their audience at such a pace usually tweet 20+ times a day on an average.

Would you be interested in an interview for my blog post for some specific questions. Here's the post: marketingmetrics.io/blog/timeline-hacking-grow-your-twitter-following-with-data

That's a cool insight Subro! Unfortunately will have to turn down the interview as I am focused on building my own things at the moment, but wishing you all the best!

Excellent post. I newer thought Twitter that much important. I need to think again about Twitter now :)

    50 to 5,000 in 6 months is huge 🤯

    Great tips.

Who has some of the best bios you've seen?

    1. 1

Thanks Dru! I haven't done a lot of digging into the best bios, but here are two I've thought about recently.

I like @trulykp's Twitter Bio. It's clear what he's all about and he comes across as very approachable!

I also like @mariepoulin's Twitter Bio. It's professional, tells you what she does for a living, provides links to her work, yet has a touch of fun.

I did not know there is something as chirrapp.

I just had the problem today of fixing my thread into digestible numbers, but know I know I will not have to think about it in the future anymore, thanks alot @janel!

      Glad I could help!

Thank you Janel. That's very useful for me as I'm just getting started on twitter. By the way, my handle is @_fitnesstracker. If anyone wants to follow, i'll make sure to follow back.

You're welcome, and all the best on your Twitter journey!

Hey Janel, very nice post thanks. Usually growth posts like this are a little sleazy, so I'm usually put off by implementing their "hacks", but I love how your advice is never like that. It's promote good things, be helpful, connect with like minded people and so on. Growth is almost a side effect.

    1. 3

Thanks Felipe. The biggest growth hack of all time is to be a good, helpful person :)

Congrats on the growth, Janel, and thanks for posting these tips. Twitter is a channel I’d like to become more active on, so these tips are a great help!

Thank you! Be intentional as you engage with others, good luck!

    Great tips Janel.

I'm using #buildinpublic in my bio, one of my central topics, does that really come off spammy?

Also, may I ask how much time you spend on Twitter during a typical week? I've set a goal to build my twitter audience, but want to avoid workflow distractions.

    1. 2

I'm personally not a fan of hashtags in bios, if I were you I'd go with "Building In Public." Looks more professional. But it's again up to personal tastes.

I spend waaaay too much time there. Twitter is a huge lead source for my digital product, Newsletter OS, so I justify my time spent there as "growing my reach" too. I also just love reading what smart people have to say, and check out what they are building so I spend loads of time reading and commenting.

I also tend to speak to a lot of people in the Twitter DMs but have started moving close friends onto Telegram so I can send them files.

Fantastic tips and taken away a lot from this. Thank you for sharing.
    I’m starting to...

    • include what content people can expect in my bio
    • summarise articles I read and write into threads
    • follow key hash tags and phrases around my “beacon” - app performance and scalability
