I’ve made a lot of websites in my career. When making and running a website, there are many common things that you always need to keep optimize for and track: Domain registration, SSL expiration, Core Web Vitals, SEO, Email delivery, Favicons, Accessibility, Security headers, Caching, etc…)
Google Lighthouse is a great tool that developers are hopefully familiar with, but there are many important things that Lighthouse doesn’t test. You can often find specialized tools that will test these other things (SSL Labs is an example). The problem is that you need to use dozens of tools to get a complete picture of your website’s health. In my research, I could not find any comprehensive website auditing tools. Additionally, very few of the tools that exist will proactively monitor your website for errors and notify you if something changes. This is why I built Validbot.com.
ValidBot is a free tool that analyzes your website and offers suggestions for following best practices across a wide range of areas. Here are some of the things that it currently checks.
There are many more tests that I plan to add in the future and I am still tweaking some of the current tests, so please let me know if you notice something that you think isn’t correct. I don’t claim to be the world’s expert on everything that goes into making a website, but I do extensive research on each test. It’s a fun project for me to learn new things and I hope this tool helps other developers improve their website’s security and performance.
Please check it out and let me know what you think.
