Web App/PWA or Native/Cross-Platform Mobile for MVP?

Hey Everyone,

I often see on this sub and many other subs that Mobile Apps are kinda "dead" and MVP's 99% of the time should start out as Web Apps.

However, I noticed most of the people saying that are targeting Web Apps centered around B2B or SaaS products related to Marketplaces, E-Commerce, SMB SaaS.

Has anyone had any experience making a completely Consumer-Facing App's (Dating, Social, Entertainment, etc.) MVP into a Web App to start out with in 2020, ditching a Mobile App completely, and if so why?

Why not just create a landing page to get traction first and then develop the Mobile MVP directly vs. Developing a Web App and then a Mobile App?

If Instagram, Messenger, Tinder, Uber, or Snapchat's MVP's were launched today, would they start off as a Web App/PWA or Mobile App directly first?

Thoughts?

I actually had success with B2C but within a LOCAL market. A lot of B2C markets on a global level seem to be all about the-winner-takes-all (maybe because they create a huge network effect due to the fact the # of consumers is way bigger vs. the # of businesses). With a local language market, it's the same dynamic, just the competition is a few million vs. 6 billion.

So what did your MVP end up being: Web or Mobile App or something else?

Also, what was your app about?
