Welcome, introduce yourself! (Week of May 31st)

Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.

Take a moment to say hello to someone else as well!

Dive into learning.

We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.

@csallen also puts out podcast episodes if reading isn't your thing!

Next, get started!

There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.

Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! If you're ever feeling lost or confused, post in the Meta group or tag me (@rosiesherry) in any comment or post.

Don't forget to introduce yourself and say hi to someone else below! 🤗

Hello, my name is Jacob. I’m currently working on a side project called Queu (It combines all of your streaming subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, etc. into one app) and my initial goal is to get Queu to 100 users. I’m really excited to learn and grow and be apart of the community!

    1. 2

      Brilliant! Please PM me!

      1. 1

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately, I don't think Indie hackers has a private message feature. My email is in my profile though.

        1. 1

Hi Jacob, I've recently completed the exact application you're looking to develop, open to help or give advice!

    2. 1

This sounds like a brilliant idea! I'd pay for it :)

Hi, my name is Serdar. And I`m really efficient at losing motivation after the MVP of every project.

Hi, I'm Paul, I'm 16 and I'm looking to find out how to start a business and to get comfortable with this kind of thing like businesses!

  6. 3

    Hi everyone!

I'm Nikita and I'm from Kazakhstan. Working as front-end developer (full-stack developer).

I don't really know, what to expect from indiehackers, but I hope participating in community will good for me.
I want to start developing native mobile apps (with Swift) and create useful services.

  7. 3

Sup! Aaron Jack has recommended this community in his video on youtube. The more I read about it the more I like it! My name is Herman Leus and I am senior software developer from Ukraine. I am a developer almost over a decade already. I was focused on building a career but things really became repetitive and uninspiring. I am also a crypto owner as I believe in a future behind freedom of international trade. Once I have asked Blockfolio (one of the most popular crypto asset management tools) add very specific but useful asset property on their main dashboard "profit/loss" which they said that they have other more important priorities. So I decided at least once make something useful for myself and in the same time for everyone else. I have created my own crypto asset tracker https://cryptobvious.com which I really like. There is still much of work to be done. But this is a great start of something I made myself which is useful for myself and I do believe for others too. I am really glad I can see people working on theirs own projects and get inspired and would love to communicate.

  8. 3

Hi, my name is Bhagath. Trying to take my first step towards entrepreneurship. I was reading an article about Gumroad and came to know about indiehackers. I hope everyone are keeping safe.

Would love to work with like minded individuals, act like sponge and learn as well as build cool amazing applications!

    1. 1

Hello xosemanolo. First off, congratulations on completing your 3 month program, that’s such an awesome achievement! I'm glad you found IH and I can’t wait to see all of the awesome things you build.

Hi my name is Andreas and I am from Canada. I am a recovering tech marketer and I have recently launched a real product, brewed botanical tonics made from medicinal mushrooms.
Because of my tech background, we used a ton of methods usually not found in food, such as beta testing and rapid iteration.
We are about three weeks from Lauch with our chaga drink - we were supposed to go to market in March, but COVID caused a fair number of delays.
For tools, we use WordPress, Shopify. Our design work was outsources to upwork, where we found an ace graphic designer at a great price.
Hoping to connect with other founders, especially when the going gets tough.

Hello, my name is Javi, I am an experienced developer and engineer, but pretty bad marketer and designer. I've built good products in the past with little success because of that. Hoping to improve for the next projects.

  87. 1

Hey all, I'm Cody. I've started up a side project that is quite different than anything I've heard on the podcast or seen around, so let me know if this is even a good place for me.

I've been a developer for the last 10 years, and I've done a few side projects that have mostly become vaporware... and abandoned. So I've embarked on doing something different to generate some income.

I've started a youtube channel to learn how to do graffiti/street art to scratch the itch of making art again.

Although I'm doing it with the heart of just having a non-coding hobby, I'd love for it to be self-sustaining (income supports the raw materials and time needed).

Let me know if this is a decent community for this kind of project. I've heard nothing but great things about this community and hope we can all chat and cheer each other on!

  88. 1

Hello, I'm Endy. I'm currently working on a side project called Yelll@Me. The idea is to enable people experience drastic change in their lives. Each user commits to an ambitious goal with deadlines. Then receive tough love whenever they fall off track. E.g. accountability partners reach out. It's a bit controversial but a lot of people have said they like that it's different. So I'll take different :)

I am also a productivity enthusiast and researcher (my PhD was on productivity and digital addiction). I occasionally tweet (@todo_whiz) practical tips based on concepts in Behavioral Economics and Psychology.

I'm excited to be here. Looking forward to learning and helping others as well.

  89. 1

Hi 👋, my name is Tyler and I am currently looking for feedback on a new product idea to see if I should move it further into development. The product is called Decision Donkey (www.decisiondonkey.com) and it will be designed as an interactive/collaborative Pro/Con list to help businesses make better decisions + give them a platform to review and measure past decisions.

I hope some people will check it out and provide feedback on if they or their businesses would use a tool like this to help make better decisions and manage past decisions.

My goals are to receive beta signups to show validation for the idea. I created a quick landing page:

    www.decisiondonkey.com.

    Hi, I am Enno.

    It's great to be here.

I am working on a tickler file app. The goal is to build a super easy task management and follow-up system. My website is: www.fortythree.me

I had a running beta test last year which was promising but then ran into some technical issues slowing me down. Currently rebuilding the app in a different framework and hopefully I'll be able to reopen the beta test later this month.

My initial goal is to build a small community of acitve users and continue to improve the product and spread the word with them.

Howdy Gang, I'm Blake 👋 Relatively new listener to the podcast and small time entrepreneur hopeful. Decided to join today to make a post asking how hard it is for folks to find ideas (read problems to solve) - heard Courtland drop that sound bite a few times and will follow this up with a more general post asking about it!

    Hi everyone,

My name is Jermaine Oliver and I'm really excited to join indie hackers. I joined for a few reasons. Currently I'm a software engineer working on a side project to help businesses and consumers track the public opinion of their local stores and public locations using ML as related to COVID-19. This will help consumers ensure that the businesses they are visiting are following the necessary guidelines, and it will let businesses determine whether they are viewed favorably on the subject. As we begin to reopen the country in the US, I believe this will be a handy application and I'm hoping to build a startup from it to build capital and/or investor support to spur on some of my other ideas as well.

I am hoping to engage in discussions regarding startup ideas, gain knowledge about the startup process, and possibly receive advice or feedback on my approaches.

    Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone. My name is Elena. I'm a CPA and have been in both, public and private accounting for 12 years. I have been fortunate with my employers but the reality is, even though I'm well compensated, I'm miserable doing accounting day in and day out. I would love to gain financial freedom so I can discover myself a bit more and pursue my interests. I've always wanted to travel and learn to play guitar for instance. I want to help those less fortunate not just by donating money but also actively, physically participating in doing something good. I don't know where to start and what I'm even planning on doing but hoping this site will give me some inspiration. I'm so tired of feeling trapped, scared of failure and of jeopardizing my financial security. I can do better than that. My apologies for not having an idea to share at this time. But hi all!

    1. 1

Interesting to know about your quest to be out there in the real world, to bring change. Dream on and I am sure you will find your path very soon.

Looking backward I come from a startup background & have worked for two companies i.e Clarisights where I worked on creating advertising tech solutions and Playment where I helped in making driverless cars across the globe.
As a developer, I love to participate in hackathons and contribute to open source.

Currently, I am also working on a side project called QuickMeet which is a video conferencing solution based on P2P webRTC framework. Please check it out here https://quickmeet.live
Looking forward for developers to collaborate with me on the same.

Hello, my name is Abdulwahab, a mouthful, I know, so you can call me Abdul. I am an aspiring web and android developer, ethical hacker and entrepreneur. This is me actually trying to accomplish something for the first time. I am the kind of person that knows a lot and yet knows nothing. I started coding at an early age but never really perfected or went far on any single programming language. I lose interest and motivation quickly, as a result I have an "artificial" knowledge on various topics which I realized will not help me in the long run. I hope this community will help me focus and direct me on the correct path.

bounties4 is an initiative for entrepreneurial people and software developers.

We are a marketplace for software development tasks, a platform that allows companies and startups to create rewards by specifying deadline, price and definition of done. Through our recommendation algorithm, we find the best software developer to meet the demand.

The entire development flow is integrated into the platform: from code delivery to the payment after the task is completed and reviewed by our technical experts.

Currently, we are only operating in Brazil.

Hello! My name Ahmad and I am a recent college graduate with a bachelors in Neuroscience. Right now, I am trying to decide what path I'd like to take in life and the purpose I'd like to pursue in the future. Building a meaningful online business is something I feel pretty passionate about and I think Indiehackers is a great platform to start learning about the space.

Hi. My name is Alex. I've worked on a side project for traders the last 10 months. Started with no to minimal research. Just found out, that this isn't going to work. Back to start. Trying to find a new idea for a project now. This time will do my research before touching code. I would like to start a micro SaaS for traders, staying small, just to give me more financial freedom. Looking forward to lean a lot here

    Hi all, Garm here.
As my weekend project I’m working on a fun little ios/android app that helps you reconnect with your favorite people called Helden.
It’s a place to reconnect with people in your contact lists you're particularly fond of, but do not talk to on a regular basis (anymore). Think ex-colleagues you wish you could work with again, that friend of a friend you'd love to start a band with someday, or simply someone you'd love to hang out with sometime. On Helden, you can swipe right on these sorts of people. If they swipe too, you join each other's crew. Crew members can send each other messages.

    iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/helden/id1510026750?ls=1
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.garmr.superpower
Some more screenshots here: https://imgur.com/a/G08zshI

Would love to hear if you recognize this wish to reconnect, and if you’d ever consider inviting your favorite people to join such an app?

Hey hackers! Finally, I found some time to write an introduction even though I've spent days reading the content. I've launched two startups in the past two years, and one is successful, I might say, growing day by day, helping people to create a logo. I learned a lot already will be more than happy to share my best lessons. In 2020 I'd like to make a significant impact on any startup I create and become a top product designer. Glad to see a lot of familiar faces here already and those who I don't know yet - we'll get in contact!

Hi Rosie - thanks for having me! After about 20yrs building a B2B SaaS company from 5M to 150M I am going out on my own. While I am Not an engineer, I am very product focused, and know my space cold. I plan on using my experience to start my own company and build a better mouse trap. My hope was to leverage the community for help, feed back, and guidance. Great to be here!
    Thank you!

Hello, I'm here to find more likeminded friends to brainstorm/create cool software projects with. In 2020 I would like to successfully build my first app for both IOS and Android.

  211. 1

    Hello everyone,

After many years of creating software or managing large teams, I figured it was time for a change and decided I would try to start my own company (which, in my head, would be a super cool company where there would eventually be more than just me 🙄).

This new project started just a few days ago, with the idea of applying the tools and methodologies from the tech industry to... journalism and newsrooms.

For the next several months, there will be a lot of development and figuring out how all the pieces should fit together, hopefully with some feedback and support from the IndieHackers community.

And now back to work 😤.

  212. 1

Hi everyone, i am glad to be here! I am an associate in a VC, looking for ways out for my own startups these days. Hope to learn from and give something back to this community.

As we know the world is advancing rapidly in technology and it made me think why not create a business through social media, this is why i want my job to be on youtube so i can be paid via youtube. I have started to try and grow my own name by starting a TikTok and instagram account and hopefully if i can gain followers there then i will start a youtube account. some people say that it is hard to do this but i believe that if you put your mind to something then it is possible. also i hope i can gain a lot of support from other users here as that is why we are here, to support each other. Hey IH, glad to be here,

I'm a builder, like many of the folks on here, I have a big weakness; telling other people about what I've built, so feel like getting out of my comfort zone and asking for feedback from the IH community.

I'm hacking on a project hiya.io that summarises your day every morning with a digest email - a tool to scratch my own itch.
The problem I was having was (as a dad and having a busy day job) I wanted a quick, detailed, summary of my calendar, weather & finance without trawling apps & sites.
I started with a bespoke set of scripts to aggregate and summarise my day, then slowly evolved my scripts into a self-serve product and by luck, I've already got just over 100 beta testers. I'm keen to now start opening up the product more broadly to get more feedback.

Looking forward to the journey together 💪, James

    Hello,

Very glad I found this community. I've had several businesses over the years. Now starting fresh again with several concepts. Looking to gain insights and wisdom from those in this community.

Most of the projects I've done in the past and currently evolving involve video in one form or another.

Looking forward to seeing what I can also contribute back to the community.

I want to learn how to find product market fit with products and build my own business.

  267. 1

Hi, Im Shifa Abdi. I want to start a business and I want some accountability. I've been in the planning phase for way too long. I also hope to meet some great people!

  268. 1

Hola Rosie! I like this site so far! Great experience!
I was referred to IH from a reddit comment by 'u/jinvariant'.
I've been working on a side project last 2 years and now need to spend time outside of the cave seeing how the rest of world reacts to it.

I hope to bring to table advice on putting together dream projects. Sometimes you don't need an app, or sometimes you don't need a website. If it's your first time, you don't always see that kind of stuff. I'd love to be available to talk to anybody needs advice on where/what to do.

Anyways, good to be here! Thanks Rosie

Hello Rosie! This is Carlos. Thank you for letting me join the community. I have great expectations. This unprecedent time affected everybody but at the same time it is an opportunity to do something. I have three different ideas I want to develop in the respective apps but I have no idea on coding. I start playing with adalo but it will be great to get some feedback and advice from indie hackers.

Hey Rosie! IH is awesome and the community seems amazing. I love that the philosophy lines up with "making stuff happen" versus "making it look like stuff is happening" (which is a trend pervading the startup world today). Excited to be a part of it!

Hi my name is Ben. Putting actions behind a long time brewing ambitions of starting up a side hustle. Here to learn, share and apply. With the modest but hardest(personal opinion) first step of earning my first dollar by the end of 2020.

    Hello, I am Reha

I was listening to few different podcasts and got familiar with indie hackers concept and community few months ago. It took me some time to join here but better late than never :) I am working full time in a big multinational corporation but want to try kicking my side projects and learn more about developing a product. I have no experience on coding but just started to learn Python 3. Looking forward to develop my own skills and part of a great project.

Thank you for creating this community to enable people to inspire each other

Hi, my name is Marcel. Over the last few months, I've build https://thesustainablelist.com/ together with my wife. And now we're at a point where we need to promote the idea, build a community and iterate on the product a lot.

I have a background in web development and she's a marketer but we're eager to learn more about the world of sustainability and ethical fashion, not only because we're interested but also because it will helps us build relationships with our potential audience and brands.

I joined Indie Hackers to look for advice on marketing, growth hacking and find potential partners. Since we're parents, our time is extremely limited and we have to spend evening hours and weekends on our project since we both have full-time jobs.

Really looking forward to get to know the IH community better, share my experience and learn from others.

    Hello all 👋🏼

My name is Catalin and I'm a software engineer. My goal for 2020 is to build a series of projects in an attempt to generate a consistent side-income flow.

I'm currently working on Organisely (www.organsiely.app), an appointment scheduling software. We've got 5 beta-users and looking to find our first paying user.

I'm also documenting my journey as part of a Medium publication I started (https://the-side-hustler.ck.page/landing).

I've been using IndieHackers for a while now (mostly contributing in the Developers channel) but I hope I can get ideas and feedback from the rest of the community
