It's been a crazy few month and I have been neglecting my bookshelf. It's about time to dust off a few for a little inspiration, education and motivation.
What have you been reading (or not) lately? (technical, business, etc... ).
Extra credit if you post the book (or bookshelf) pic.
The world-altering book known as 12 Rules of Life, by Jordan Peterson.
Seriously though, check it out.
Me too. I stumbled upon him after Youtube recommendation. His speeches are magnificient.
It's on my list. Sumarizing it in one sentence, what's it about?
Own your shit and your life by taking responsibility.
It's definitely a bit denser than I'd prefer, and he goes on somewhat esoteric rants at times, but the content is worth it.
I'm also on that. Going through chapter 4.
I'm on chapter 4 too!
I set an intention to read 24 books in 2020, with the majority being business books and a smattering of fiction. So far I'm 15 in, have 3 on the go, and 2 upcoming.

Nice! Which ones are you favourites so far?
Ooh tough question.
My top 5 would probably be:
How's Originals? I am certainly a big fan of Give and Take.
I thought it was a fantastic intro to the concept with very vivid examples. Not really a how-to, though there are a few tips you could take away. If you're interested in the topic and want a good primer on the original research done into being "original," then definitely give it a read.
Grant is a good writer. You'll find it's very "academic" in the intros to each chapter ("in this paper I will demonstrate...") but the rest of the writing is more at ease and more conversational
Awesome, thanks. I've heard good things about Atomic Habits before but haven't had the chance to read it yet. I'll definitely check out the others too!
If you're not 100% sure you want to spend the money on the book yet, check out James Clear's blog -- https://jamesclear.com/articles
The book started as a blog anyway (basically the book became a way to capture the best of the blogs + create a product to sell to his subscribers, which he explains the prologue of the book).
Ah hell yeah, thanks! Sweet resource
I decided to have a little break from self-help/social science books and go for some sci-fi and books that are not in my immediate realm of knowledge.
So, recently I finished Seveneves (an incredible book) and I'm half-way done with Shadow Divers (so far it's amazing).
This month I've gone through these so far:
Pragprog
Manning
Non-tech
I've found the book on Rust + WASM and "How to Decide" both fantastic. Expert Secrets feels like a huge sales letter but has things to learn from in it. The book on open source fairly mediocre. School and Society is short and very worthwhile if you've been thinking about education. Reality is Broken is great, which is why I'm re-reading it after several years.
Antifragile - Nassim Nicholas Taleb
World War Z - can't remember but it's quite good

"When Breath Becomes Air" is a fascinating book on work-life balance and I cannot recommend it enough. It's not for the faint-hearted though.

Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull
12 Rules for Life by Jordan Peterson.
It's a thick book - you've been warned. BUT a great one
On Writing Well, by William Zinsser
Very good book for anybody who wants to improve their writing.
Almost through The Miracle Morning, started waking up at 5 before the kids. Two days in so far. Feeling good.
The Mom Test is pretty good!
Dusted off "How Google Works" by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg. I wanted to post a question about "platforms", asking if there were any hackers here undertaking a platform, and there was a quote in there about platforms. Couldn't find the reference yet though
"How to be a Stoic " - almost done. Very good.
Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman
Awareness by Anthony de Mello
I have to admit I'm mostly listening to books while working out. Latest ones have been:
Under the Black Hat: My Life in the WWE and Beyond by Jim Ross
Listening to Obviously Awesome by April Dunford and reading Permutation City by Greg Egan. Just finished listening to The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey for the second time - it really affected me.
I'm currently reading Quirky -- The Remarkable Story of the Traits, Foibles, and Genius of Breakthrough Innovators Who Changed the World.
It's like a collection of short biographies of some of the most successful people in the world like Tesla, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, Marie Curie, etc. It's super fascinating and I'm definitely learning a lot.
P.S. I recently launched a newsletter called thewrapup.substack.com that features summaries of books recommended by the world’s most successful and interesting people in tech, business, politics, and more. I think some of you might enjoy this :)
I just finished “Surviving Autocracy” by Masha Gessen:

Everything is F*cked - A Book About Hope, by Mark Markson

There are multiple I'm reading;
My primary book shelf currently consists almost exclusively about philosophy and psychology, so if anyone has recommendations for something interesting into a completely different direction (non tech plz), hit me up!
