What could I do to improve the ranking of this blog post?

I wrote a blog post a few months ago trying to rank for the search "schedule LinkedIn posts".

Currently, it's average position is 14th, so the second page of Google 😕

I wanted to ask for feedback on anything I could do to improve this ranking?

Here is the blog post: https://blog.oneupapp.io/linkedin-scheduler/

Thanks 🤓

Edit: It is apparent that I need more backlinks to this blog post. If anyone can help out with that, I am more than happy to return the favor however I can!

Loved the post. I ran it through ContentRank and here's what I came up with:

Seems to be moving on up. A few additional keywords like "social networks", "link" and "account" might help.

A lot of people have mentioned things I agree with, but one thing I don't see mentioned is that your blog posts are on a subdomain.

Subdomains are seen as completely different sites to Google - and don't carry the weight of the root domain (which seems to have a good backlink profile on Ahrefs).

If I were you, here's what I would do:

    1. Change the blog post(s) to be on the root domain. oneupapp .io/your-keyword-here/
    2. Change the URL of the blog post to be the exact keyword you're trying to rank for (/schedule-linkedin-posts).
    3. Come up with a title that will up your CTR (something more inticing - "The easiest way to schedule linkedin posts").
    4. Put the oneupapp instructions at the bottom of the blog post, not the top. First explain why it's important/useful, then tell them how to do it. If you sell right from the beginning, people will bounce, and that's not a good signal to Google.

    Hopefully this helps!

Hey Jordan, thanks for the feedback!

For 1, hasn't Google said that it doesnt really matter whether your blog is on a subdomain or subfolder?

If I did move everything to a subfolder, is there any risk in losing out on the SEO and backlink that the subdomain blog posts already have?

Regarding 4, I originally had the instructions at the bottom, but it was recommended by @wyatt to move it to the top:

I think you are missing the intent here of what the user is looking for. There is way too much lead up to what the searcher actually wants which is the last paragraph. If I was to land on this page from google search I would pogo stick to another result. I do the same thing with recipe blogs that give me the whole backstory on their long lost second cousins birthday party where they first invented it haha.

        Hey Davis,

@jdnoc is right about the subdomain vs having it off the root. I would recommend migrating it over if you can.

I'd map some 301s over to the root

        1. 1

Would you recommend migrating all the old content over, or just publishing new content on something like oneupapp.io/blog ?

      2. 1

Yeah, they have - they're treated equally but they are a separate entity.

And yeah, if you moved everything you'd lose your existing link juice (I'd probably just do it with newer posts). But it's not a total requirement.

Alright, maybe not at the bottom, but maybe blended better? Not sure. I do guess it depends on the intent of the keyword - are people looking to schedule linked in posts right now? Or learn more about it? Would help you come up with a better title too.

    Hey Davis,

    Few things I see.

I would recommend getting into the nitty gritty quicker than you do. If you have Clearscope, run a report for that keyword and throw your article in there to see how you stack up against others writing about this topic.

If you don't, check every article in the top ten and note their article headings. Are you writing about what they are too? Google has deemed their content worthy to rank, so make sure you are meeting that benchmark.

    1. I wouldn't ever expect to break into the top 3 for this result. Linkedin owns 1 and 2 and you most likely won't beat them. Then Business Insider sitting at 3. BI has a lot of domain authority and it will be tough to knock them off. Can you make the article title/angle of the article different? Make note of the top 10 SERP results and what their article titles are. Google rewards content that has new points or a different angle. Days are gone of "how to schedule posts on linkedin" will be the title for all 10 results in the SERPs.

    2. You're going to need to build some links to this page. The top 10 recommended link count per Ahrefs for this keyword is 8. You currently have 1 that is a followed link. The other 2 you have are nofollow so not going to count.

Hope this helps. If you want me to run a Clearscope report for you I'm happy to. Or if you have any questions on how to build links to this page I'm happy to help there also.

Thanks Wyatt! Your feedback means a lot to me.

Regarding 1, I definitely agree. I was originally following the format of a competitor's post, but I have changed up the order to put the answer to the actual question first.

      1. Agreed that it will be tough, but I would be content with 4th :)

      2. Yeah... not the easiest building backlinks for a blog post like this. If you were me, where would you look to find low-hanging backlink opportunities for a post like this?

      1. 1

        Regarding point 3....

Most likely people won't be giving out links for this type of post. I'd be looking for guest post opportuniteis here where you can link back to this post.

Ensure the guest posts you are pitching are related to linkedin so you can keep "linkedin" in the title that way you are pushing that topical authority to your domain when they land.

Good way to find opportunites in bulk is find some "perfect" candidates that you would want to get a link from. Throw those sites in Ahrefs Site Explorer and navigate to "competing domains" . This will get you bulk guest post opportunites that are similar to the "perfect candidate" sites you seeded it with. Do a "batch analysis" in Ahrefs of your exported results and start to filter by metrics (DR, traffic, etc) that are exceptable to you. Then take those domains, run them through Hunter.io to get email addresses and start your guest post outreach.

Let me know how it goes!

Another opporunity, hop into Linkedin Facebook groups and offer up some free posts related to LInkedin marketing and link back to your page once they accept the post... you kinda got cross your fingers the people in these groups have decent domains but it works pretty well in terms of people who accept I've found.

Awesome, thanks Wyatt. I'll use Ahrefs to find and reach out to the backlinks of competitor posts 😊
