What has Indie Hackers done for you? 😊

Indie Hackers has one of the greatest online communities I've seen by far.

Indie Hackers has helped me get feedback, find people who have the same interests as me, and also has helped me find my first users for buildfaster.co! 👏

I don't know what I would do without IndieHackers. I've reached heights I would've never been able to reach before. 🌄

How about you? What has Indie Hackers done for you?

Be loud! Be proud! Make your story heard! 🔊👂

It has kept my hopes up. Normally I would have given up sooner, but I managed to get my first paying customer for my Docker product just because I persisted for a longer time.

    1. 1

Awesome! I'm happy for you :)

  2. 13

    It welcomed me warmly.

I'm coming from Reddit where I'm mostly being ignored. Even when contributing (hopefully) valuable information or insight, or taking the time to write thoughtful posts and replies. No comments, no upvotes. Not even downvotes, attacks, or even snark. Just radio silence. So I'm going back to lurking mode there.

I'm shiny new here. Yet I'm receiving thoughtful comments, questions, appreciation, and genuine interest I what I contribute.

    1. 1

This is exactly how I feel! Loving it here so far

    2. 1

      Welcome! Glad you’re here

      1. 1

Thanks Bryce, this is a community I've discovered only recently.

    3. 1

I experienced something similar. Reddit is great for some things...but I found it's not necessarily a great place to be sharing projects in the hopes of receiving genuine feedback and insight.

      1. 2

Absolutely, Reddit is a great place to keep up with a lot of stuff and go in geeky depth.

    4. 1

      Awesome!

      Hope you feel welcome :)

  3. 7

I came for the interviews, stayed for the community.

I don't know anyone IRL doing this stuff, so it means a lot to be able to talk to like-minded people.

  4. 5

It made me post all my projects. Made me realize I like to start stuff.
    harder to finish...

    1. 1

Once you find something you enjoy doing, it will be that much easier to finish.

  5. 5

Just getting started, but reading everyone's stories has been motivating. I feel like if I read enough posts I could put together a play book for going for 0 to 10 then 100...

    1. 1

      I would read that!

  6. 4

IH connected me with my co-founder. We've gone from zero to alpha and will be reaching beta soon!

    1. 1

Awesome! I’m happy for you 😃

You and everyone else has great stories. This is so inspiring :)

  7. 4

It’s the best community by far. Friendly environment, lovingly people. Made me want to give back, sharing my learnings. Being honest, transparent about wins and losses. Made me care and help others.

    1. 1

For sure! Totally agree @Leo :)

  8. 3

I received useful feedback on my project OpenGraph.xyz from @rywils21. Super helpful!

    1. 2

Awesome website! I just used OpenGraph.xyz to add a Twitter and Facebook sharing image for buildfaster.co :)

      Thanks!

      1. 1

Glad to hear that! Feel free to let me know if you have any feedback or ideas for the site :)

        1. 1

I think it's great! Maybe you should try sending the user to a separate page (IE meta.html) instead of doing everything on the same page.

          Just a thought :)

          1. 1

That's not a bad idea. I'm looking for ways to improve the user experience. Thanks for the thought 🙏

            1. 1

              You’re welcome 🙂

  9. 3

Inspiration and encouragement. And on the tangible note I probably got some subscribers for the launch of my book as well a video reviewing my landing page (by @rywils21).

    1. 1

Interesting. I would like to help with the design of your landing if you would like.

  10. 3

Thanks to IndieHackers. I'm taking action. 🧗‍♂️

It's amazing the energy it gives me to get my side project off the ground.

The community will be the first to know because without your help I can't do it! 🤙

  11. 3

Same here! This community is by far the most helpful. The energy is unbelievable.

We have got so many helpful feedback. Most of our early users for Dorik is from here. The early feedback/support helped us to improve and stay motivated.

I can't imagine where we would be without help from this community. 🙏

    1. 1

Awesome to hear! Dorik is pretty cool 👍

  12. 3

I've learned many growth tips that I can put to work for my future SEO newsletter!

  13. 2

It helps me feel less alone as an "internet entrepreneur." Most of my previous experience online led me to spammy marketers and "gurus" who created products with very little value.

Also, there is very little entrepreneurial spirit in the DC area, where I am based (heavy emphasis on traditional high paid professions (law, defense contracting, lobbying)).

While this is slowly changing, people I encounter are smart but also very risk adverse, and creating a tech project on the side is not a concept embraced by many. I'm sure this is true (perhaps even more so ) in other parts of the country (outside of major tech hubs).

Even finding people who are running successful projects on well established online forums like Reddit can be hard. Just today Indie Hackers surprised me by publishing an interview I had submitted a while ago. I would not normally put that much effort and detail into an interview but I feel like Indie Hackers encourages members by keeping the bar high for content quality, so I feel more motivated to engage.

    So I guess, succinctly put:

Indie Hackers has connected me to high value content and a vast network of like minded entrepreneurs (for which I am immensely grateful!).

  14. 2

You can learn a lot. That's the main reason I'm here daily.

    1. 1

Same :) there’s so much love here

  15. 2

IndieHackers has helped me acquire 100+ users for my startup jemsplash.com

Influenced me to learn more front end development

Got me over 100+ followers on Twitter and connections on LinkedIn

Influenced me to start a blog

    Taught me about headless CMS

    Subscribed to more tech podcasts!

By the way @BraydenTW would love for you to join the wait list as it's an alternative for Gumroad.com and we would love feedback once launched.

    1. 1

Nice service! Looks interesting but I am currently not looking to change my transaction service.

      Thanks anyway :)

      1. 1

I in no way was trying to cause you to leave Gumroad only was looking for feedback to improve my product especially as a startup lol.

        Thank you anyways :)

  16. 2

It has done so many things to me that I don't even know from where to start 😅

    1. 1

Haha we all feel that way :)

  17. 2

it helped me to get started with my IndieHacker Journey. It also showed my the perspective of an entrepreneur mindset. Hoping to launch my product soon.

    1. 1

Congrats! Let me know when you launch 👏

  18. 2

Although I have been slacking a bit on here for the past weeks, Indiehackers was the main motivator for my side projects!

I used to create content sites for affiliate marketing but wanted to change into SaaS and digital products for a while. The indiehackers community as well as the podcast interviews were so inspirational that I finally decided to make the change.

Haven't regretted it since. Also found a ton of nice people on here, other communities like Makerlog and great follows/followers on Twitter.

    Super thankful ❤

    1. 2

For sure. I feel the same way :)

  19. 2

IH made me excited to start stuff, get valuable feedback from fellow hackers, and read about others journeys.

    1. 1

      Awesome to hear that!

      Wish you luck 🍀

  20. 2

A lot in a positive way. Helped me to build Siteoly

  21. 2

Inspiration: success stories give me hope.
Support: both in terms of insightful feedback and emotionally. Sanity checks and constructive feedback to keep me honest.
I only started engaging the community about a week ago, and I'm already in love.

    1. 1

I know! I felt the same way when I joined 😄

  22. 1

Literally met super cool people like you. People really speak my language around here. Feels like home

  23. 1

The community is great for motivation and also a sense of perspective.

Indie hacking alone and starting a startup as a solo founder is an incredibly lonely journey, and the moral weight of a startup (most of us are hoping to replace our day jobs with our SaaS MRR) can be too much for one person to bear.

I live in Los Angeles (probably 3rd-highest CoL in the US), so I can't live off my startup alone just yet, but I'm getting there with Zlappo.

Hell, when I got my first paying customer, I celebrated publicly here on IH, and it has since spurred me on and on to keep building and keep hustling.

The value of IH is in its community first and foremost.

    1. 1

      Haha awesome milestone dude :)

  24. 1

I have joined IH today itself and it has already become one of my favourite communities to stay productive and be part of meaningful conversations. Glad to have found it 😇

    1. 1

Awesome! Hope you feel welcome :)

  25. 1

Definitely it's more than that but two points that came to my mind now.

IH is a motivation booster. When you want to work on any kind of side project, it's always good to see other people also working on different services, products, content, etc.

You can see how other products grow step by step, thanks to IH. You can learn from their mistakes and accomplishments.

    1. 1

Yeah for sure. There are many great feats here 👍

  26. 1

Great insights, learnings from other entrepreneurs and genuine feedback. Not to mention a few customers we landed from the interview I did back in May :)

  27. 1

I haven't engaged much in the online platform, but I've been listening to the podcast for a long time and it really helps me imagine the art of the possible, consider challenges I may come up against, and consider questions I otherwise wouldn't come up with. Overall it's entertaining, inspiring, and educational.

As for the community here, I'm looking forward to getting some more and different stuff out of it, and contributing back.

    1. 1

I know right? This place has helped so many others and now even more are giving back :)

  28. 1

Nothing! Been here for over a year and still waiting for a Lambo to show up in my driveway.

As someone else mentioned I also "came for the interviews, stayed for the community." I poke my head in here once or twice a day to check out what everyone's up to. It's really inspiring and motivating to see others pushing out fancy new widgets, ebooks and services.

None of my friends or family do anything entrepreneurial so I really appreciate being around like-minded people on here.

Let's see...so far I've created a simple desktop app and a membership site and have almost completed a website to take on some freelance work. I have another app I want to build and plan to start some kind of free/paid newsletter later this year.

    1. 1

Sounds good! Thanks for telling your story :)

  29. 1

I like to learn from and help interested and interesting people.

There are an unusual amount of them in this community 🥰

  30. 1

It introduced me to like-minded people. The people in the real world just did not understand. I learned I was not the only one facing similiar problems.

    1. 1

Amazing! Thanks for telling us :)

  31. 1

I am pretty new to IndieHacker but I've found one of the best internet community so far! It pushes my desire to commit to my projects and inspires me a lot.

  32. 1

I'm new to Indie Hackers, but what has struck me so far is how smart and respectful everybody is. I find other online communities to be quite nasty at times.

    1. 0

Awesome! Hope you feel welcome :)

  33. 1

It really is the best community! It helped me a lot and pushed me to finally start posting online and to not be scared of sharing my ideas and projects 😀 The tips that people give to each other and the podcast are invaluable.
I am launching my side project iconsizer this friday and that would not be possible without the courage I got from this community 😀👍

    1. 1

I feel the same way! Everyone is so supportive on what ever I post :)

Wish you luck on the launch 🚀

  34. 1

Inspired me to start! Thanks @csallen

  35. 1

Made me feel like I wasn't alone or crazy. None of my close friends or family really get it. It's genuinely been a huge source of motivation and inspiration.

    1. 1

I feel the same way 🙂

  36. 1

I haven't really got much help from IH because I haven't asked anything.

But I have helped a handful of IHers here! 😊

    1. 1

Awesome! People like you make IH even more enjoyable 😄
