What I learned half way into a Product Hunt launch day

Hello IndieHackers 👋

Today I launched my product into the world via Product Hunt. It's a Notion workspace that helps to launch and scale projects & businesses quicker.

It's been a crazy day (I'm based in London, so it started before you guys based in the US).

Right now, I'm sitting in 3rd position with 150 upvotes and 17 comments.

I wanted to share some of my findings so far and start a discussion on how to navigate this crazy day!

What worked:

  • Engage, engage, engage! So far, I've been speaking to people in the comments. People on Product Hunt are super informative and eager to help with questions and advice. I tried to reply to every single comment on there and hopefully haven't missed anybody.
  • Luckily, being based in the UK is ideal for a Product Hunt launch. Midnight in Product hunt world starts at 8 am here, which means I can get started at a reasonable time, although there might be a few coffees later on!
  • I like to think that my images are appealing. I tested them on a few people, and they seemed to love the box mockup. Not many people could articulate exactly why, so I ran with it.
  • As with any good product, it can work really well to piggyback on another product that people love. Notion has a great following on Product Hunt. I love the tool the guys over there have made, and of course, my product wouldn't even exist without it, so thanks!

What I need to do better:

  • Cold reach out - I've read many blogs that suggest you essentially reach out to as many people as possible on your launch day. I'm always skeptical of spamming people without good reason. However, that might change when we get later on into this crazy day.
  • Being British, I sometimes struggle to shameless about shouting out my stuff. Don't worry, that's normal here, but I would love to engage with more people on Twitter. Perhaps this is the push I finally need to get more active in the community.

I'd love to hear from any Indie Hackers. Feel free to join the conversation and support me on PH. Have a fantastic day!
